Lake Matheson Walk

I hope this helps others, I felt I couldn’t find this information else where so please upvote this to help others -You’ve got about a 35% chance of seeing the awesome reflection in all its glory because of the rainfall in this area. You need a rain free and clear day. When the weather is good the place is super crowded.Regardless - do the walk!! It’s a beautiful and easy walk, accessible until the jetty view point. The walk is through a forest that also keeps you safe from the rain, so after about 400m you are rain free, super nice and worth it!

Easy to get excellent picture for your canvas at home. Suggest going in the morning when there are less people and less windy to get best reflection.

I tied this walk into my reflection island review. This walk is easy and flat right behind the Cafe. There's bathrooms at the start. There's plenty of parking for larger vehicles. Cool picture frame at the start of the walk and a cool bridge. Sunset is stunning for this walk. The weather was sprinkling and cloudy but not too bad to be honest it was more beautiful that way. The path is established and clean. No dogs allowed.

If you’re very lucky and get a clear sunny day with no winds, Lake Matheson delivers stunning views of the mountains, reflected in its lake.Most people, however, will be lucky to even see the mountains as they’re hidden by clouds, and the reflections are almost like unicorns.Still, even without those views this is a good short walk through ferns and trees, some nice views, and much of it is flat, though, after the lookout, there are stairs so the wheelchair friendly bit expires here.There’s a slight diversion to a lookout, which only takes 2 minutes, but we found the best views were back down on the lake shore, below this, where there is a clear view back to the mountains.There’s a big free car park, it’s just 10 minutes off the highway, and the café here is superb – great coffee, excellent meals, and a really good gift shop, with high quality well priced original items.

We did this walk on Mai 2023 on a super sunny day.It is an easy walk, with great views.The reflection of the mountains on the water is spectacular, and the photos from this spot can be found on postcards and in magazines. Definitely a must do.You will find on your road 3 viewpoints - I would say 4 with the one that allows you to do a personalized postcard with Mount Cook and Mount TasmanAnd at the end make a quick stop to the souvenirs boutique - you can find pretty nice things !

A lovely walk,& wheel chair friendly although the camber on the track was a bit steep in places. Awesome views & birdlife.

An easy walk, with great views. The reflection of the mountains (including aoraki) on the water is spectacular, and the photos from this spot can be found on postcards and in magazines. Definitely a must do. The walk to jetty point is reportedly wheelchair accessible. There were no stairs, so theoretically doable, but the ground has lots of little rocks and decent uphill segments that may make it a little difficult for some.

Wonderful evening walk at this beautiful place. There were cows at the start of the trail and many different birds along the way .Cc

Beautiful walk, not very hard. We didn't get the majestic mountain view as it was cloudy.The lake was peaceful and there was lots to see regardless. Very pretty boardwalks, moss, plants and lots of birds.The visitor center/cafe/shop looked amazing and had some beautiful souvenirs, unfortunately we were slightly too late and they had just closed.
