My family connections with pounamu (jade, greenstone) go back hundreds of years to the Maori tribes Ngati Mahaki and Ngati Waewae who were the origional traders of pounamu on the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand.

Garth and Jo provide a dedicated personal experience at their studio. Hear about the history and journey of the pounamu that your very piece was carved from, learn the deep meanings and traditions behind gifting pounamu to others. This is the perfect place to find a very special personal gift that you simply can’t get anywhere else! We visited in April, and since then we've contacted Jo and Garth on 3 separate occasions (from special birthdays through to major illness diagnosis) and they've been able to help us choose and personalise very special gifts of pounamu every time.

I contacted Garth and Jo in September to commission a piece for my partner’s 30th birthday. After much back and forth via email we settled on a design and I was told they would carve the piece and let me know when it was done. The birthday came and went and I never heard anything from them. I emailed them afterwards to say I was disappointed that I hadn’t heard back from them and that they had spoiled a special birthday surprise, but they totally ignored me. They didn’t even have the grace to apologise for wasting my time. I highly encourage everyone to go elsewhere, these guys just don’t deserve your business.

Garth’s passion on craving for greenstone make every piece of his work tell the story, you can feel every piece from the workshop really mean something. I’m so impressed with the artwork that make of 3 piece of Hei matau (from the same stone) and joined to be one piece, super suitable for sibling / family /friends, even we fall apart but we are united.

Kia ora......I received a commissioned 'manaia' pounamu (greenstone)' for my wife who is from Te Rarawa Iwi (July 2023). It is stunning! Garth is a master carver/craftsman & his whakapapa (history) & connection to his area manifests in his glorious work.He added detail on the piece to reflect our whanau (family) history. This is a 'taonga' (treasure) which will be passed down to future generations. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Garth does fantastic work, and we felt good to be able to support a local artist and not a huge corporation or large shop. Garth was on vacation, so we only interacted with Jo. However, she did a great job of explaining the shop, how Garth works, and telling us the Maori traditions around greenstone. I 100% recommend this shop!

I'm glad I got a chance to meet Garth and his wife, a lovely couple. They were very helpful in helping me select the pounamu. He was nice to offer a small carving onto the toki I selected which depicted my journey and the support and connection with family. They have a good selection and invite you to watch them work and took the time to explain their process and how they work. I'm very happy with my purchase and happily recommend Garth and his wife's work to anyone considering it.

My partner and I were luck enough to visit Garths home gallery. Garth, his sister and his wife are very welcoming and it is obvious from the moment you talk to them they are passionate and knowledagble about their artwork and local history. Can't speak highly enough of them, you won't be disappointed. My partner got her mum some beautiful earings.
