Tongariro Holiday Park

A place with really bad service. I booked a private cabin the day before I arrived at the place and gave credit for the reservation. The guy who spoke to me on the phone did not explain 2 important things about the basic cabin: the bed is without any sheets and the internet is not free. When I arrived at the place after a very long trek(“tongeriro”), the woman at the reception was really bitter and unpleasant, I explained to her that I was a bit disappointed since there was a misunderstanding here since these things were not explained to me on the phone and I am very tired and exhausted. But she nervously and grumpily gave me back the money instead of being empathetic and approachable. After she called her husband (the guy who closed the reservation with me over the phone) to come, he kicked us out without hearing everything that happened. A place with very bad attitude to customers.

Incredibly friendly staff, helping in any case even unrelated to the campground. The showers are the best i've seen on a campground so far. No flies/spiders, clean and comfortable. Unless there were 20 people showering before the water is always warm.The kitchen is a bit small and the cabins are only a bed in a room, but that is what you pay for. Overall really great!

I witnessed the dialogue between “hyggenista hyggenista” and the Owner of Tongariro Holiday Park (see previous review). Hyggenista was very demanding and aggressive towards the Owner who remained polite and constructive throughout the conversation despite the very rude behaviour from the customer.We very much enjoyed staying at the Holiday Park. The Owners were very friendly and service-minded. Facilities at the Park were spotless. We were happy to get WIFI (paid) in such an remote area. We had a fantastic hike at Tongariro Alpine Crossing - thanks a lot for the hiking tips and great shuttle service from the Owner.We highly recommend staying here !

Nice place for an overnight stay. Very busy with a mix of families and walkers. Limited wifi and no shops nearby. Toilets and showers clean but dated. The kitchen facilities are also clean but not really geared to accommodating a full campsite. Big queues for using the cookers and sinks. No extras provided so bring your own washing up liquid etc.

Simple is best. Basic rooms have heating and electrical points, and camping pitches are flat and well kept. Shared facilities are excellent, particularly showers, kitchen diner, and a spacious drying room

We had an amazing stay at Tongariro Holiday Park! Great accomodation and ammenities, warm and cosy room and perfect kitchen facilities. Staff were kind and welcoming and went out of their way to make us feel welcome and that we enjoyed our stay- would definitely recommend!

Very good camping. Helpful, kind and smiling hosts. We feel very comfortable. Amenities are very clean, and nice to use.I recommend the cabins which are excellent value for the price.Do not hesitate !

Amazing place, friendly manager giving tips and advises for the Tongariro alpine crossing. Offering Shuttle in the morning for the beginning of the trail. Just perfect.

What a great camping ground. Incredibly friendly staff, very helpful. They have a great kitchen. The showers are good and the spa/huttub is fantastic especially after a big hike. An excellent place to start and stay for hiking the alpine crossing our explore the national park. When we left, the owner even give us a glimp of his hobby. Riding a hotrod. Thanks for sharing this with us.

What a fabulous Oasis in the middle of nowhere. I'd crossed the 42 Traverse, leaving a little later than I would have liked from Owhanga, so my arrival at Tongariro Holiday Park was in the dark at around 9pm. I had not booked ahead so I was a little concerned I would not find accommodation however on arriving I was met by the manager, Greg, and to my immense relief was given the option of a tent site or cabin - I took the later - a comfortable room with all the ammenities close at hand. Such a VERY pleasant stay with great service all round - Thank you Greg and Donna.
