Otautu Bay Farm Camp
such an awesome place . camp ground was amazing we were invited by friends who have permanent sites there and we didn't know what to expect. the owners and the staff who keep the place running are awesome. everyone who was staying there were friendly & talkative. the locals we talk to gave us inside knowledge for fishing and things to do. next year we will be back with the kids so they can enjoy this great experience. thanks to all the staff for your welcoming and friendly chat and advice. this place is must to visit.

Great campground, old school NZ camping. There are powered sites but we were on non powered. Very happy with the place.Tonnes of room to park boat, trailer, tent all on same site.Flush toilets and warm showers in one building block, composting toilets at another part. Showers cost $1 for 5 minutes ( get coins at reception)Freezer space available for a cost per day ( freezer room is locked so only paying people can access)You can launch your boat at the all tide ramp but need either 4wd or tractor ( I think you can hire a tractor drop off/pickup but not sure ) we used our kayaks so not required :)The bay is a lovely swimming area. You have to boil camp water to use it so byo recommended. - son and I used about 12L for 2 days.No kitchen facilities so take own cooker and bucket to wash dishes in. Taps in toilets are cold so heat own shaving water ( or don’t shave :) )No cell phone reception for miles around, no wifi so means you can’t be contacted by work :)Take battery chargers for cell and electronic anything as there is no where to charge. My only bug was that camp noise continued past midnight but it wasn’t a big deal as we were too tired from adventuring all day...Go for a mission, you won’t regret it.

We checked out this camp recently during Easter weekend, after our usual spot was fully booked. We rocked up with no booking and were lucky enough to get a spot. We were given a courtesy rubbish bag (which you leave behind to be collected after you leave) and a very spacious spot in one of their numerous areas. The amenities were a short walk away (albeit up a small hill, but it was a good way to keep warm), clean and plentiful. Showers were available (they take $1 coins only, so make sure you have a good supply of coins). All in all, we'd definitely use this camp site again

Even tho it rained, its still a great place for timeout. No tv, no reception, peace an quiet. We love it. Clean and tidy too.

I had a great short stay here. Sadly only for one night in miserable weather but I was welcomed kindly and given a great sport right by the ocean. I can see how amazing this place would be in good weather - the sea is calm and perfect for a good float. I'll be sure to go back.

Amazing holiday! Tent sites are big. Great access to everything you need. Kids/we loved the self composting toilets. If you are placed by the main gate you can be woken by cars/tractors coming in and out at night... bright headlights etc.If you need mobility access to amenities then ask when you book to get a site closer.Make sure to checkout the sunsets by walking up the small hill at the wharf end. You get cellular reception up there too (reception can be patchy or not avaliable back at camp). We will be back!

We stayed in the Seaview Apartment. Which is a self contained flat on the back of the managers house but you wouldn’t know as you parked out back. Could find no reviews at all on this as they were just for campground itself and pics on website were not that clear so took a punt. Was great. Stayed in middle of winter so was very quiet. Clean and tidy and warm, double bed and bunks for kids in same room but plenty big enough. Ten metres from beach. Kevin and Karen were great hosts, friendly and helpful. Beach is very cool. You can fish from beach or from wharf at northern end. Gravel road last two km. No WiFi though. Enjoyed our two nights.
