Food was good. Not a great selection and variety of baked goods if you go too early.Could use some labelling on the cabinet. It's such a hassle for both me and the person behind the counter for me to point and describe what I wanted instead of saying the name of the item.

They have good hot food and sweet food if you go at the right time otherwise youl miss out.People stand in there clueless waiting to be served.Being goin to this bakery since a kid but now it's gotten to the point I don't want to go back because of the energy from the customers standing round. could do better , i.e have more people serving....

Classic institution. Selection and range is really broad. Quality is excellent and everything is good value. It's pretty puzzling how difficult it is to get a decent sandwich in Christchurch, and I find myself detouring to drive past Sydenham Bakery. A lot of cafes could learn from a visit, whenever I see ciabattas or weird arty stacked things for $10+ it's enough to make me want to bang my head on the fridge glass repeatedly. Ka pai to mahi gang.

This bakery has one of the biggest ranges I have been to. They have an awesome selection of filled rolls, sweets, savoring and even southland cheese rolls!The pies however are the only thing I feel let's them down a bit. They are good pies, but nothing to brag about which is saying something compared to the rest of their selection.

I have always thought this bakery to be above average. I just got home after buying a steak pie. I never throw away food but this pie was truly disgusting. Just jelly and a cpl lumps of meat, definitely would never buy one of those again.

Poor chicken family pie. Lacked anything resembling chicken. Pastry very good. Overall very disappointed given their normal high standards.

Got a ham croissant and chicken pie , croissant was lettuce, 1 piece of tomato and a piece of ham that I had to look through the Hubble telescope to see, pie was less than average , 5 people waiting to be served with 4 behind counter doing nothing , has gone to the dogs used to be semi ok

Wonderful food. Love the Battenburg cake, my all time favourite and they do it so well. Would like to see more smaller, loaf sizes cakes though. Staff very friendly and helpful
