Strange having wooden slats all the way up, caught toes a few times. The climb was worth it though. Coming down not so enjoyable as needed to watch where feet were going.

Amazing view at the mountain top just past the hut and in the middle on the way to the reflective lake. The lake is not reflective in windy days but the view is still stunning! The whole track is very well maintained. I will bring my parents here next time

**Highly recommend you go on a clear day**Yes, there are a lot of stairs, but pace yourself, take some breaks and once you get to the hut keep going! Just 15 mins past the hut, up a small hill and you will be rewarded with the most breathtaking views of Mt. Taranaki!Hughie the Kiwi definitely approved of the trip up and I can say you won't regret it!

It's a tough 7-8km of near-constant stairs going up, but with a great boardwalk track that's easy to follow. I find the stairs a bit monotonous but I appreciate the boardwalk protects the environment which is the main thing. Shame about the weather, no views or reflection in the tarn for me.

Hands down to DOC who laid down the wooden steos all the way up to top and beyond. The view up there is stunning on a sunny day, with bright blue sky and white clouds. The perfect spot for hiking, taking pictures and smell pure Taranaki air. The reflective lake is very popular photo spots. I can see why.

Like lots of reviews said, this track has endless steps which will make you exhausted. You have to bear with boring steps and quite a long bush walk for almost 2.5 hours until you arrive the hut. The view is worth only if the weather was good.

It was a easy to follow track and as, it is a hill, expect the walk or trek gets tougher as you walk or trek further. One advice is on the clothing. When I started off, it was about 14 degree C but as I moved up, I was perspiring and the humidity was bad as there were trees around so I need to remove layers of clothing till I was feeling cool.

Tons of stairs. Great spot for sunrise/sunset. We went early in the morning for sunrise and we were the only ones on the Pouakai trail. Had the lake view to ourselves. To be honest, the lake up at the top is more like a pond.

Nice walk. Took us about 4.5 hours each way. Be prepared for a load of stairs but most of the way is on board walk. I didn't get to see the mountain reflection in the tarn as it was cloudy but we'll worth the walk. An enjoyable day. Toilets at the bottom carpark and at the top hut.

Tarns were cool, shame it was a bit windy so we couldn't get the reflection photos. They need to have someone up there watching it though because so many people disrespect it and stand off the trail and on the tarns, ended up asking a couple people to respect the signs so more people can enjoy it in person, not just their Instagram fans.
