Travis Wetland Nature Heritage Park
Great walk around Christchurch. It was only 10 mins drive from our place. There are quite a few entries/ parkings and two toilets at the main entrance of the walk. You will see signs about the past, current and future of Christchurch with the eco systems at Travis Wet land. Generally dog are ok as long as you don’t enter the restricted area where birds live.Enjoy seeing cabbage tries and different ducks. You will see different birds depending on the season.

Lots of birds. Loved the hide which gives good viewing of lake. Lots of new planting, tracks well maintained. Good to see several people birdwatching, walking, running in reserve. Lucky enough to meet to Christchurch City Council rangers who were informative about plants, birds, etc.

Travis Wetland Nature Heritage Park
The Travis wetland nature heritage park is always a lovely spot for a walk, and is often one of my top choices on a nice day. The walking tracks are kept clear and accessible, and the wooden walkways covering the swampy areas of the park are safe and kept clean. There are many different types of birds that you can see here, and I enjoy sitting down and watching the pukeko.

A bit underwhelmed, it’s a beautiful place and has lots of ducks and geese thou. Not much shelter around the track so tend to be too exposed to the sun on a sunny day.

As one of the last remaining wetland areas in Christchurch, it was fascinating to see this place and imagine how the entire region used to look like. There’s one main loop around the entire park, which makes it easy to explore the different areas (info booth, bird watching area, etc). There were several people walking, jogging/running, and just stopping along the path to examine the trees and wildlife. As for getting there, there’s a few different bus stops right in front of the (side) entrance, so it’s not hard to access for those without cars. Although it’s surrounded by the suburbs, it really feels removed and apart from the neighboring community. Such a peaceful place to visit. Highly recommend!

Beautiful place to visit! The road is well maintained and flat. There is a small house for quietly watching/taking photos of birds/ducks/swans.Be careful about the black swans, they can be angry occationally.
