Awesome spot. Road is quite exciting but completely doable if you are careful - but go slow and careful and maybe avoid if the weather is wet - there is a ford and some steel slippery bits (we went up in a 2wd electric car on a dry day in April). Hot pools are very warm - so probably best in winter, autumn or spring. Not very busy - we initially had them to ourselves then us plus another family. View is beautiful. Campsite looks fun if basic. We haven’t tried the walks yet.

Amazing. Secluded and quiet. Definitely a hidden little gem. Just be wary it's a heck of a drive on gravel road with minimal reception.

A bit of a hike out to this beautiful part of NZ in the Kaweka Ranges but worth the drive. 72km from Napier. Nit suitable for front wheel drive or low vehicles. A small creek to ford so don't go after heavy rain. Partly metal road after Puketitiri. One section of narrow road. Lovely natural DOC camping ground with very clean toilet. Tracks to Mohaka River & Hot tubs could do with some attention. Hot tubs in good condition and really warm. Tom, the warden was on duty. Friendly and helpful. Several choices for tracks & trails including huts for ivernight tramps. More hot springs further up from camp. We caught a delicious rainbow trout. Sadly a little waxeye flew straight into our campervan getting away from a big hawk (didn't survive). Sandflies weren't too bad.

Geothermal, naturally occurring bliss! My body felt particularly alive and my mind rejuvenated after being in the water.A slight excursion out of Napier, but well worth the hour-long drive. Would certainly recommend a capable vehicle for the off-road portions and extra care when driving through the gravel.

There is a river crossing on the drive in via a long gravel road so you must keep an eye on the weather forecast.I met a lovely couple from wellington but i didn't get their details which i regret!I didn't sleep at the hut but i did hike through and it looked in good condition

Beautiful free location. Well worth spending a while in this area - so quiet and relaxing in the many moods of new Zealand rainforest. Wasn't brave enough to walk down to the river on this trip but intend to later in the summer.P.s. take water to the hot pools - didn't realize I was almost dehydrated till I stood up!

Awesome little hot springs with an amazing view just a short walk from the carpark. The track down to the hot springs is very steep and has a few large steps so not wheelchair accessible. The pools themselves are fibreglass tubs and can be drained for cleaning using a valve on each tub and the water can be turned on and off with a valve upstream at the source of the water. The road in is gravel and has a Ford across the river at Makahu Station so don't come after heavy rain and make sure you have a suitable vehicle.

The gravel road made the journey a lot longer and although doable in a smaller car it's quite slow and challenging. Gorgeous, secluded spot for the hotpools but they were too hot to get into when we went. Would be good spot to camp but a bit too much hassle for a day trip.

A stunning spot but you have to be pretty intrepid to get there - the last 10 km takes 30 minutes! The track down to the hot pools is really steep and the water really hot, but it is all worth it for the stunning beauty and unique spot for hot springs.
