We were booked in but they appeared to not be prepared for a larger group. We had to move tables so we could be seated together. Meals took a long time to come out over a prolonged length of time - many had finished eating by the time the last got their meals. Orders were mixed up with other tables. Drinks were served after the meals- if the were served first then they may have had more drinks ordered.

Nice views. Quite a large, rather basic menu, but the food is fresh and tasty. There is a good food counter. The caramel slice was amazing. Good access (steps and ramp). We felt it was slightly overpriced. The service was pleasant.

Food is mediocre. We had the seafood sampler. Small pieces of deep-fried shrimp, calamari, fish and scallops. They tasted like the kind you buy in a frozen package at the supermarket. At NZ$28, we expected better. they had chicken on the patio making a lot of noises and one flew on our table top wanting food! The service girl at the counter was not very helpful and has an attitude when inquired about items on the menu. Too many great cafes in NZ with better service and food. Not worth stopping.

A good effort in the middle of nowhere. Great coffee, good cabinet food selection and menu options too. Good views from outdoor deck. Excellent parking including big trucks on road and rigid trucks easily up the driveway. Accommodation too although I haven't used it

They appeared to be running out of cabinet food at lunch time and did not look like they were replacing it. They were getting confused with the delivery of the previous customers orders and had not settled down before taking ours. Coffee ok and the food available tasty. Great position for a quick stopover.

Called in at 287 cafe on Sunday, very run down limited food options couldn't even get a toasted sandwich my order didn't turn up at the table so had to go and ask for my food just to be told that he had forgotten it , while I was at the counter a guy was made the wrong coffee so the attendant ask some else to serve the man his coffee and with that went and sat down not even a sorry to the customer. Know we will be going into town for coffee and eats, BEST OF LUCK WITH YOUR SALE hopefully some one will take over that cares about customer service.

The food wasn't hot, with some chips still partially frozen. All four different meals were a disappointment for a variety of reasons, especially for the prices. The fish was just frozen supermarket-type product, as was the burger patty. The children's banana bacon pancake was the best meal. The staff were friendly and did a good job. It was quiet at the time of our visit, and the children loved the roosters and chickens.

Purchased two medium takeaway coffees using keep cups and were charged $12. Usually, elsewhere, they would be around $8 for two with reusable cups, and we would had been aware of prices, brand and menu options which were absent from this cafe. Super expensive menu, unfriendly atmosphere and run down , won't be going back, shame as the place has great potential.
