Lower Wye Creek Walking Track

I looked on DOC site about this track and they had it's an alpine track and only do in summer so was in two minds about it but it was a beautiful day and I thought it's only a short walk and really you don't get much snow on the bottom of the Remarkables. Sure enough there was nothing wrong with the track... just a bit muddy, so have appropriate footwear and walking poles would have been useful on the way down. Rocky patches but nothing too difficult and yes it's uphill but still not overly hard. Get to first waterfall, go right and then you walk the planks over the pipe for a while until you get to the other waterfall. This is as far as we went but could see others heading off around the side of the hill. I am sure the longer Wye Creek walk needs to be done with consideration for weather but this lower track is definitely an all season one. Awesome views for sure!!

Such a great hike. The views are amazing. A couple of waterfalls on the way. Like people say, go off route to the right at the first waterfall and you will reach the viewing platform. You can continue going even further on the side of the mountain. They have cell phone reception up there!

The short drive from the gate to the carpark was a rough one, suitable for 4wd for sure but was a tough one for my little Toyota. Track itself is quite steep all the way to the planks. The planks are the best part with the views. Lost my footing several times on my way down since it was quite muddy, even though I had my hiking boots on. This one was just not worth the effort for me.

Fun track to walk once you get past the road. Beautiful views. Uphill the whole way so you’ll need to be reasonably fit.

Nice easy walk to the helipad, can be icy in winter but usually sunny after 11.30am.

A steep and in some points technical hike, only for those with mid to good levels of fitness and agility. Highly recommended heading to the lookout/ heli deck. Take care not to damage anything as these are working tracks and heli deck for access to the hydro equipment.

Some steep sections but a well walked track, the views from Wye Creek climbing area are stunning.

What a track and so overlooked ! We had a feeling that just local people were passing us by but maybe I shouldn't write this review and leave this paradise to be free. Amazing views, peace and quiet and the best is to take your lunch and eat it up there on the platform. So worth the climb! I am a bit afraid of heights and there were moments my heart stopped but wasn't that bad!

My favourite walking track. Bit of a tough driveway, you will need a decent 4 wheel drive to reach the start of the track but there is a car park at the bottom as well. Incredible views of the lake, waterfalls, rock climbing and a viewing platform.
