We got the Ensuite Room with the double bed and the bulk beds. Would suit a family with children under 5 years old because the Ensuite is only separated by a fosted shower screen. Which your older kids would not appreciate anyone seeing the outline of the body while showering or going to the bathroom. You can ask for a screen at the office for more privacy. The games room kept the kids busy while not out in the snow. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Would stay again.

We came with three young kids and stayed in the ensuite. Amazing room, spacious for our family of five with great views of the mountain. Great location, very close to happy valley. Delicious dinner on site!! Hot tubs were a great bonus and are drained and cleaned daily!! My son said he wants to come back to stay here for his birthday...so hopefully we'll be back in October!! Also the staff are super friendly and helpful...Highly recommend this place!!

Spent 2 nights here over Easter. New bathrooms were nicely designed and the building have sufficient heating. Took a while to get hot water though, could be a water pressure issue in our room though.

Piper's Lodge is a great place with affordable prices. The room we stayed at is spacious enough for every member of the family. We booked the ensuite room since it makes it easier for us with small kids, though be advised that some rooms only have access to the shared bathrooms. The common lounge is a great place to relax and while away the time amidst a roaring fire. There are books and board games available for perusal, and even an arcade for those who wants something more energetic. The dining hall offers warm dinners which are delicious at reasonable prices. They also offer kitchen access to those who would rather DIY.All the staff are very nice and friendly and we will definitely come back next time we are visiting the area. Highly recommend the place!

Arrived to find the place being renovated. Restaurant and bar closed not even serving breakfast and no spa pools. Only booked here so everything was under one roof and the new owners did not notify us until we had checked in and paid. On the second night we asked for clean towels as our ones from the first night were wet due to there being no where to hang them to dry and were told we would have to pay for more clean towels. Only good thing about the place was one of the friendly and accomodating workers Andrew.

Under new management. . No working restaurant onsite as advertised - Unable to get sensible answers from the staff. No free wifi as advertised. no hot tubs as advertised. no bar as advertised. no hot rooms to dry ski gear as advertised..It was a cold room. locked. had to ask for keys and the staff disappear till the next day so you can't access your gear! Place is being renovated so builders dust/material/fiber glass everywhere. Smell of paint and glue forced us outside. side exit doors (emergency?) locked so unable to get in or out. TV not working. Electronic gaming room being installed so it will be very loud in the future. Please don't believe anything they say. No staff dedicated to customer..lucky if you find anyone. Very hostile when you talk to the owner. Not sure if the rooms should be serviced but they were not. Public spaces cold and dark.

All those who experienced Pipers Ski Lodge under the capable and loving hands of Bruce and Di would be appalled and disappointed at the changes the new owners have implemented. Yes, there have been some upgrades/renovations to the ensuite rooms, but even here the choices made are questionable. The ensuite bathrooms have been updated, but unless you have a family used to seeing each other naked, the frosted glass wall between the room and the bathroom really doesn't provide any privacy for toileting processes without anyone still in the room getting an eyefull. The pool table, gone. The table-tennis table, gone. The bar, closed. The drinks vending machine, gone. The spa pools, gone. The seperate kids tv lounge, gone. In their place is a gaming room that could put Time-Out to shame. Lots of flashing lights, thumping music and whining children wanting another $2 per game. The lounge has a TV, but the remote is a free-for-all, so while we were there, an animated Spiderman played twice in a row and then a Korean animae. The selector holding tight to the remote. Children allowed to run in the hallways, no respect given for those trying to put little ones down by 8.00pm. From our room (a bunk room several rooms away from the gaming space) we could still hear the thumping music from the games, this definately also drowns out the noise on the TV (maybe this was a blessing after-all). Clothes left to dry around the fireplace really turns this once bold and beautiful Ski Lodge into a backpackers. Our room temp was set so high it was hotter in there than in the drying room, with no way to turn it down. The bunk beds squeeked every movement that was made, add that to the heat of the room and it was the most uncomfortable night with the worst sleep I think I have ever had. The garish fluro wings that light up the lounge really show the changes that the new owners have put in place. We have been regular customers of Pipers Ski Lodge for over 15 years, we have had family reunions there, stayed for full weeks during the ski season and the occassional night or two where we could skip out on work to get some skiing in. What is sad I think is that all the newbies to Pipers do not even realise whats missing from their Ski Lodge experience. They do not know how great it was, to even know that what they have experienced is subpar. We will not be back.

Has a great stay. Went for a school trip and it was really nice. The rooms were clean and spacious. The food was made for us and it was delicious. Hot chocolate was available 24/7 for free. Staff were all really kind and friendly. Great place to stay in the Tongariro National Park.
