Buried Village of Te Wairoa
This open air museum pleasantly surprised us. It was very educational and interesting to learn more about the aftermath from the eruption. And to understand that the white and pink terraces are no longer visible die to that, but that they must have been a pretty sight. The kids enjoyed the scavengers hunt. It was very enjoyable. Not too difficult, but also not too easy to find.

Friendly staff greeted us as we entered and they were very informative. The walk is peaceful and beautiful. The information along the walk and in the museum is well laid out and easy to read. You leave the place really understanding the cost of lives and damage caused by the eruption. It's such a sad part of history but shows the power of mother nature. The river along the walk is nice to listen to, as for me personally, it helped with the peacefulness. The waterfall is great to see also. Although for some people the walk to the waterfall might be difficult. The stairs are steep at one point but easy enough to do if you just take your time and use the handrails.Great experience all round. We booked online.

This place has a cool museum where you read a lot of stories about what happened and then you get to see a fantastic waterfall which is well worth the walk to. You need to have OK fitness to do the walk to the waterfall, there's steep stairs.

A fantastic cultural experience over an easy 1 hour stroll (can walk it in 20 mins if you don't stop to look). There is a waterfall as well but I missed that being rushed for time.Worth a stop and wander through the musuem and village. Nice cafe attached for coffee and snacks as well!

Loved it, very good piece of our history to have preserved so well! Nice to see lots of improvements have been made since I last went about 13 years ago. Love the walk along the stream, the treasure hunt made it fun for the kids, and the dressing up at the end! Was an awesome morning! There is a bit of walking to do, but that's what we loved about it:)

Great! The museum was very interesting and informative - explained what happened in very good detail. Great seeing old relics and imagining how it would’ve been living in those times. The walk was nice, the waterfalls a must! Steep decent (short) but worth it for sure. The best waterfalls I’ve seen so far!
