About the Business

Home - Currach Irish Pub | The Currach Irish Pub & Innkeeper's Lodge is an institution on Great Barrier and no trip to the island is complete without a visit. The building itself is 120 years old and was one of the Blackwell family's original homesteads. We see ourselves merely as custodians of this beautiful old villa.

Currach Irish Pub
Very popular place, so be sure to book a table if possible. Friendly and hard working staff who were under the pump on the night we ate there. A good selection of beers on tap. The pizza was a little too salty for my liking but nevertheless a good place to visit.

I don't normally leave reviews but felt the need to compliment Orla and the team at the Currach Irish Pub on the high standard of hospitality provided. We had a large group and the service was excellent. Everyone was extremely welcoming and friendly. The food and atmosphere was great.Thank you Orla for giving us such a great experience during our trip!

Absolutely darling! We were a little nervous that an Irish pub on great barrier might only serve chips, but we were blown away by the menu and the service that we had to come back a second time. The lamb was amazing and it was the most packed salad I’ve ever had at a restaurant. Highly recommend!

Really good food here. The gnocchi is great. The slow cooked pork is so good they listed it twice on the menu. Watch out for the buffalo chicken mac and cheese. It is too spicy for kids. Good atmosphere, good service. Nice people - both staff and customers.

If you’re visiting Barrier, forget the beach, don’t even bother packing togs, if you want a good time just make a b-line for The Currach Irish Pub! The place is legendary. We popped along to their open mic night on Thursday and the place was buzzing. We even jumped on stage and belted out a few songs with the support of the entire pub singing along! We went back on a standard night and it was just as fun. The atmosphere is awesome, the wood fire pizza is unreal and the owners and staff have the biggest hearts - I left my grandfathers jacket at the pub and Orla hunted high and low for it, tracked it down a week later and shipped it back to me in Auckland! I couldn’t believe the way they looked after me.The Currach and Orla are national treasures. Can’t wait to get back there soon. Thanks again Orla.Cheers,Jarrod

Delicious food you won't regret. This was just round the corner from where we were staying and we dropped in on the recommendation of a local. After the first night we went back another two nights to try other options on the menu, they were all niceThe potato wedges were very nice and we got addicted to them, the portion was enough for two to share. I would recommend asking for them not to add too much salt when ordering. There's a good selection of fresh pizza cooked in their wood burning pizza oven, these are all very nice.

Such a great atmosphere & service! Came close to 4pm, lots of available seating. Salmon Rangoon was crispy & delicious; Moroccan spiced lamb was super flavorful!

Friendly and welcoming pub that is always busy when open and a must visit when on Aotea. Lots of tasty beers on tap - grapefruit hazy was my favourite - and food options are good too, in big portions. Beautiful deck out the back which is at its best on sunny days!

Great little pub. Chock full of character, large selection of good gin, craft beer on tap. Very good menu. Buffalo wings with flavor and kick, to burgers. And the pizzas... So good. Amazing bases and great toppings. We were a party of 9 anf they looked after us last minute. Highly recommended.
