I and many of my friends are really big on vintage designer items. after speaking to a few people about my experience in your store I feel the need to write this review as so many people I have heard from have had a very similar experience. The staff and most especially the owner are so rude - and make me feel really unwelcome. Theres been many times in store that I have not made a purchase due to the way i have been spoken at snarled at or made to feel so uncomfortable that I would rather purchase online elsewhere. Maybe you and your staff should watch pretty woman or just get a reality check and realise people love your store but are actually SCARED to walk in because of the way you treat people. This is retail not fashion week.

Can’t believe I haven’t left a 5 star review sooner. This is the best vintage store in Aotearoa, packed with beautiful pre loved pieces!

Much like the other reviews, the younger lady is extremely rude. While the selection inside the store is good, the customer service is the worst I've ever experienced. The younger lady who works at the cash register has a really bad attitude. She has an elitist attitude and comes across like she knows better than anyone else. She is rude and impersonal. She doesn't seem interested in helping customers and makes rude comments to your face about sizes (at least it's to your face). It's strange because when you work in retail, especially in vintage stores the sizes are hard to know for sure without trying them on. Be careful if you want to try things on because you will get bullied. The young lady refused to let me try on clothes because she said that certain things I wanted to try on wouldn't fit. She grabbed them from the hanger and took them away. Crazy behaviour on her part. She then remarked that I come in all the time and ignore the sizing on the tags. This is not true and ridiculous. We promptly left the store and will never return. Whoever the owner is should fire this employee. If this is the owner, you are in the wrong line of work. Horrible experience. Stay away from this place. It's not worth it.

I found the lady who worked there really rude. She made me feel uncomfortable and feel bad about my size. The way she spoke to me made me feel like she thought she was better than me. Not impressed.

Gotten some awesome clothes from here over the years. Also, they have the best selection of vintage mens wear in Wellington. However their customer service is pretty awful and I have often found the staff to be condescending and snobby. I've had them talk down to me because I couldn't afford an item and friends of mine have said they've made insidious comments about customers size. They come off as fashionista elitists and are a great example of the kinds of people that shouldn't be working in retail. However the asian man who works their is a gem.

The person working in this shop is very snobbish and unfriendly. Almost everything in this shop is overpriced. I did find a nice pair of cowboy boots but because the person in the shop didn’t even greet or accomodate us or the other customers , I decided to leave and write this review.

Hunters and Collectors is like a right of passage for the unexpecting vintage clothing fanatic, If you think being a great customer of many years saves you, think again! If you think it possible to be spoken to any more rudely than your last visit...you won't be disappointed. The lady owner outwardly has a wonderful crazy personal style which is fabulous, but be warned, we lesser mortals piss her off just by saying hello, and don't waste her precious time and energy by asking about the merchandise! Despite this I recommend H&C, it is so worth it just for the experience of disdained dismissal.

Interesting to read such a mix of reviews. I didn't have any problems with the two staff members who were there when I was in this week. They weren't friendly but weren't unfriendly. And yes, the prices are high. While the t-shirts might have been $600 to start with, $300 is still very expensive (as an example of the prices I saw). And some of the cheap brands were very overpriced, and you'd get them cheaper on sale but new. But it is fun to have a browse and an eclectic selection and while I didn't see it at first, my husband found an incredible Dsquared2 shirt for me, which, at $85 (new, it would be around $700 I think) was an absolute STEAL.

Three stars for the lovely Japanese man who works here, and the collection. The last two are stars were lost because of the rudeness of the lady who perhaps is the co-owner. My friend and i both purchased items, and then kept browsing. As you really have to dig through everything. She was quite abrupt and rude, customer service is important. Fortunately my favorite vintage store in Wellington is else where. I always leave this store feeling offended.

Walking into this shop is like a museum of vintage awesomeness and designer heaven. It's super eclectic but has been beautifully curated into collections and curios. I spend ages just looking through the cabinets, and marvelling at the array of frocks and glamour. The gallery upstairs makes it even more interesting, and a Wellington destination. Highly recommend visiting.
