Thornton Beach Holiday Park

Staff were helpful on check-in and other times we had questions. Very generous site size too and its great to have fishing so handy in the mouth with the option of taking the boat out too, if weather conditions permit. Although the powered sites that I saw have no view of the beach, albeit the beach and inlet is a very short, easy walk away.I didn't read anywhere in the reviews prior about having to pay for showers, which is fine-no objections to that, but we found the inability to adjust temperature either way very annoying and our least favourite part about the camp.The female toilets have an over-abundance of bench space which is amazing, I've never seen a campground with such a huge space!Kitchen is on the smaller side. Has some hobs to cook on, I didn't seen any oven/microwave/zip facilities and I was told there was only x1 bar fridge and x1 normal domestic sized fridge/freezer - although I didn't see them.These observations we found inferior compared to other camp grounds we've been to.Large covered/roofed and concreted area for campers for the wet weather, with plenty of wooden picnic tables - but generally these aren't to be used by campers unless they're within that area. Unlike other campgrounds where you can shift them about the grounds for use freely. Having said that, they were kind enough to let us use one on our site for the duration of our stay.Our boys 14yrs & 10yrs were a little bored unfortunately. Yes the inlet is there to swim, theres fishing at the mouth and the beach is right there but the camp itself has a jumping pillow and that's all, compared to other camps where theres trampolines, playgrounds and pool areas, in addition to a jumping pillow.Its a great camp if you're looking for competitive pricing, are fairly self sufficient and have other things to do in the area. We will be back for quick fishing weekends but probably not for an extended stay unfortunately.

Wow, $170 for 2 adults and 1 child in the basic cabin... the facilities are good and clean and have been done in a way where it looks clean and can be kept clean easily.The showers, however, are cooler than hot and no way to turn them up. We had to get some extra tokens as we were given 2 tokens for 3 people for 2 nights (should be a bit more if paying so dam much) .. how does that work exactly? and said something about needing 2 tokens for a 10-minute shower. The patron commented, Wow

So lovely, an amazing vacation location! The holiday park was very clean and hygienic. Will definitely return in the future!

Absolutely astonishing location right on the cusp of the beautiful east coast with views of the ever erupting White Island volcano on the horizon. Extremely friendly and welcoming staff which created a warm and comforting atmosphere for the duration of our stay. What stood out the most for me at Thornton Beach Holiday Park was the amazing lighting throughout the park, whomever they got to do they’re electrical work should have a statue made in their honour.

Thornton Beach: Friendly staff at check in. Our cabin was clean and the kitchen and bathrooms were spotless. Our only comments were we don’t think there is a need to have music blasting in the bathroom and common kitchen areas. Especially at night when you go toilet. The hot showers, when you buy your tokens and put them in, are hot and VERY powerful, i stood there just to get a back massage. The double size mattress in the standard cabin was too thin but we will be back.

We recently stayed in the tourist flats and while they are good little rooms for somewhere to lay your head in a good location, I was extremely disappointed with the cleanliness. Dust build up on high touch areas such as light switches show that these are not cleaned. The basin in the bathroom had hair on it and the toilet was paru. This puts me off going back as I would hate to imagine what I can't see
