What a great theatre! Staffed by volunteers. Cash only but there is a shop for Treats and they have an intermission like the old days!

The quality of a rural production of Mamma Mia! is what gives this such a high rating. My sister insisted on playing the soundtrack on the way home, and I was blown away by the fact that the backing vocals alone in Waimate were better than the Hollywood version.The theater itself is peak post-war New Zealand, and the seating can be quite cramped even for smaller people.

Having a movie theatre in Waimate is so great with excellent sound and picture, not to mention the friendly staff, refreshments and having an intermission at half time makes the whole experience a real treat

Regent Theatre
We stopped in to see the Sunday movie while in Waimate. So glad we did. This us a brilliant old theatre. Plenty of charm and plenty of space. Price was pretty cheap really. The snacks were the usual movie fare which was excellent. We enjoyed our usual popcorn and even indulged in a choctop ice cream at the intermission. Just love these theatres across NZ and am so lucky to be able to catch movies in them. Thanks to all those who make this possible. Truly awesome.

Waimate's community large venue single screen cinema run by Locals.It's seriously old school - Cash only. And stops halfway through the film for an intermission. Like the old days.Seats are ok. Films usually shown once only. And only on Fridays and weekends. So be quick or miss out.
