Beautiful falls the volume of water is incredible. You must stop In only a short walk & a free camp spot as well not to many free camps in NZ .Highly recommend the time to view you won’t be disappointed.The Rapley’s from Queensland.

Maruia Falls
The Murchison earthquake of 1929 produced the Maruia Falls through a landslide in the Maruia Valley.It diverted the course of the Maruia River, forcing it to cut a new channel over an old riverbank.Do not swim here. They have one death on average every year. The 10m Maruia Falls, on the Maruia River, is dangerous with a strong undertow current that just sucks them underneath towards the waterfall. You will drown.People ignore the signs at their own peril.

This is a lovely place to stretch your legs, take a portapotty break, and feel the rush of a good waterfall. There is an overlook right by the parking lot, but a fuller view requires a 5-minute stroll. The path leads gently downhill through trees to the riverside and wide open views of the falls.Be very careful here — signs warn against swimming due to a deadly undertow, and the river is fast and cold. The rocks on the bank are slick, so take care if you make your way around for a more head-on view of the falls.

A great spot to stop for a break between Springs Junction and Murchison. Nice spot for a picnic at the bottom of the short walk way. A convenient toilet in the car park.

Maruia Falls
We visited the falls in summer after a week or so of no rain and so it was not at its roaring best. Still impressive and definitely worth a look if you are passing by.

Lovely spot to stretch your legs, use the loo, have a picnic and hunt for pretty stones.There is a short walk down to the falls or viewing point from the top

Lovely spot for a picnic. To get the best photos one needs to walk over rocks but it's worthwhile.
