OK overall, but nothing above expectation. Basic necessities are covered but not more. The place seems old, so it's not spotless cleanliness wise. For the price we paid, maintenance could have been better. Bed is comfy and sheets are clean though. Free simple breakfast provided as well. Location is good, with restaurants and shops within walking distance.

The property is towards the end of the street next to Glowworm. It has a good sized common lounge, dining and kitchen area. Breakfast was included was basic cereals, juice, toast, tea and coffee. It was good to have the breakfast included for short stays since the restaurants are expensive with the only other option being buying from the supermarket. Good clean property with friendly, caring staff. Franz Joseph is a little village with only two streets so one can walk from accommodation to restaurants, supermarket, visitor center etc.

Amazing facility, clean comfortable room. Plenty of parking spaces around the area. Veey close to the glacier walk and close to petrol station etc. Good rest stop for the night.One thing can be improve is instructions for late check in could be a little more clearer. Also, encounter a rude backpacker staff at the premise. Assumed it was by the way she talk about the property. It was late, dark and we were scrambling to find the building that host our room. We came across the staff of the backpackers at the outside which talk to us with a very unpleasant and condescending tone. Not helpful at all. I hope that staff please improve her customer service relation. Not what I expect to be greeted after a very long tiring drive.

Friendly staff, clean and comfortable room. Nice help-yourself breakfast. Highly recommended: overall very good value for the price.

We stayed one night (passing through franz josef) to break journey. Very comfortable room (we had one of the private ensuite family rooms) which was very spacious and quiet - less than 5 mins walk to township (basically shops/restaurants around the corner literally). We were met on arrival and fast efficient check-in. Would recommend.

No frills experience. The (private) room was in acceptable condition and check-in was easy. Employees were nice. Breakfast was disappointing: only included toast and cereal with juice, tea, or coffee served buffet style and wash your own dishes. Laundry facilities were very dirty. Walls were thin; we heard noises in the hallways and neighboring rooms at all hours. For a cheap price this stay may be worth your money.

The owners are the nicest old couple. The hostel is good, the kitchen is properly equipped and the rooms are nice. The free breakfast is a great plus.

Booked a twin room last minute after doing a hike nearby. Were very impressed, especially for $65. Very clean and well maintained. Room was simple but perfect for our needs. Bathrooms were clean, lounge room was cosy and comfortable. Kitchen was great (spacious and fully stocked).Thanks Montrose!
