Oh that there were more unspoilt NZ beaches like this one. No cars. No cafés. No noisy daytrippers. A unique east coast beach with one of the oldest pohutukawa trees left standing.

You have to cross an estuary to get to the beach. Flows in the estuary are about knee height at low tide and about chest height at high tide. The long drops are reasonably tidy. There are bins for rubbish so you don't have to hump it back out with you. Good beach, fine sand but lots of shells and stones as well. Lots of sandflies and other bugs so take bugspray. Placid water, good for swimming.

Ideal spot for camping during a severe weather event. Beautiful waterfalls, soft ground - like sleeping on a waterbed - private shallow lagoon perfectly safe for kids to skimboard or even boat. Recommend bringing a spade to get that perfect ditch for a castle-esque moat experience. Lovely mud pools for a mineral soak and free unlimited cool showers.

This is a lovely but not readily accessible Auckland City camp ground. You get there by walking or boating in. There are lots of trees as windbreaks so it is protected in most wind directions. The water is potable and they will take your rubbish away for you (rare). The beach is beautiful and fairly empty of people. There is a historic graveyard at the north end of the beach which is worth a visit. NOTE if you are walking in,plan around a lowered tide as you have to cross a river. It's worth it though.

Okay. My boyfriend and I wanted to go away for the weekend so I booked this place because it looked nice and quite. Which it is I won’t lie, but took too long to find, we searched google maps and it sent us to a area public can not go to. I had already booked it which was annoying but didn’t matter because it was $12. We ended up going to Sullivan’s bay for the day to end up finding out we need to do a little walk from there to Te Muri. We had a big one bedroom canvas tent, and inflatable bed and food and all that jazz, we couldn’t stay because of the fact you’d need to cross and estuary and it’s a big walk up ahahahha, carry light for this trip fellas. But the beach and the site is nice

I booked for long weekend tent camping that I expected I will walked in the camping ground but no way to bring it all the staff. It will be nicer only for day. just waste of money.
