Ao Marama Retreat
Ao Marama is a gem. We first stayed as a group of six in 2019 and brought a bunch of friends back this summer. The hosts are warm and friendly and make you feel part of the place. The location can't be beaten with incredible views and close to loads of activities. You can easily spend weeks there exploring and relaxing. This is our favourite place to holiday and will be going back as often as possible.

Ao Marama Retreat
Thank you Elizabeth and Duan for a wonderful stay at Ao Marama Retreat. The setup with the house was perfect for our group of 12 made up of 3 families, providing a great mix of private and communal spaces. We loved meeting in the well equipped outdoor kitchen for our morning cuppa. The sundeck at the front of the property was the perfect spot for an afternoon drink, cheese and yarns. The location of the retreat is great for exploring the wider area, from the adventurous walk down through the bush to the beach, to paddleboarding at Milnthorpe and heading further afield to Motupipi for some biking or Wharariki.Thank you again.

The hospitality from both Duan and Elizabeth was second to none and their local knowledge of the area really made our stay memorable. The facilities and view were amazing making this one of the best spots in the South Island we’ve been to. We both can’t wait to come back! Thanks, Michael and Kim

Lovely and relaxing place to stay, with an incredible view!Thanks to our hosts local knowledge for great food and things to do, we went to visit Wharariki Beach and many other places. Which we wouldn't have found as easily.

Fantastic quirky accommodation spaces and wonderful hosts. A perfect spot for a relaxed weekend after kayaking on Abel Tasman Coast. The market and cafes at Takaka are worth a visit too.

Ao Marama Retreat
We were greeted warmly by the hosts & to our surprise a shining cookoo who was nosey enough to stay around us for most of our stay . If you are a bird watcher or in general an animal lover then we recommend you stay a couple of nights. The spa is very private and Duan was more than helpful, heating it for us just to our liking. Thank you so much for your hospitality. It was the most perfect weekend. Literally what the doctor ordered. Heat & rest.

Our business was fortunate to have our Christmas party of 28 staff and family held at Ao Marama.Duane and Elizabeth and their fabulous team provided a wonderful banquet of salads, lamb on a spit, desserts and cocktails. The food was incredible.The area was set up with games for the kids which kept them all entertained and happy.The area itself is beautiful with landscaped gardens and views of the sea and the mountains, very private and felt like we were totally away from everything. MagicThe level of service is top level, we were looked after extremely well.Make your next stay at Ao Marama because it really is exceptional

Ao Marama Retreat
Had a terrific time at Elizabeth and Duan's Ao Marama retreat. Lovely gardens, decking, eqsuitive views and friendly ducks. Huts were perfect, nice and clean. Highly recommend staying here and we would love to return. Hot tub is divine and an awesome spot to stargaze. Being able to book the house and huts is an amazing option. We had perfect weather and the additional comforts of the house are a great option for the cooler months. Thank you!
