Historic Kohukohu Villa
Our family of four recently stayed two nights at the Historic Kohukohu Villa as we competed part of the Twin Coast Cycle Trail. The villa is warm and a delightful place to stay. Food and coffee were fantastic, beds comfy, and host were very helpful organising a trip on the Ranui across the Hokinaga Harbour from Mangungu Mission to Kohukohu.

Everything about this place is a whole vibe, Dee and Sean have created the perfect space to relax and unwind, everything has a place while keeping its history alive. They were amazing hosts, from the food, wine to coffee they know what they’re doing, it’s clear they are really proud of their home and I’m glad they are sharing it with us to experience. Absolutely loved it and I can’t wait to come back!

Stayed two nights here. Freshly restored with incredible interiors you can actually spend a couple of hours exploring the decor. Located just 5 mins drive from the ferry in a very quiet spot you can sit and listen to the local birdlife. A couple of minutes walk down the road are the local shops and jetty. Fantastic place to relax and unwind or base yourself to explore the Hokianga

We had a wonderful two-night stay at this unique B&B. Dee and Sean (+ 3x kitties: Mia, Tegan and Gabby) were such attentive hosts. We were treated like VIPs but with the ease and comfort of staying with old friends or favorite relatives. They are lovingly and meticulously restoring their home built in 1840. Everything from the wallpaper to the furniture is beautifully presented and cosy. Guests have the B&B side of the house to themselves which includes a bathroom, a separate loo and media room. Meals are served in the conservatory at the back.Highly recommend dining in for dinner. Sean is a great cook, and Dee was so thoughtful trying to accommodate my dietary requirements. The freshly caught Hokianga flounders were such a treat! A must try.Kohukohu is such a quiet gem on the West Coast. Worth visiting especially if you are looking for a place to unwind.

Thank you Dee and Sean for the exceptional stay we had in your beautifully restored home. So many highlights - the historic villa, beautiful furnishings, delicious food and wine, not to mention the outstanding hospitality. The peace and quiet of Kohukohu mixed with the absolute luxury offered by Dee and Sean was exactly what we needed and we can't wait to visit again.

We stayed at the Historic Kohukohu Villa for a night as part of our NZ Cycle tour. Being met on the road side by Dee and Sean on a cold and wet night after cycling 90 km felt like a Lotto win!! (not that I've won Lotto but I can imagine!) They were incredible hosts & nothing was any trouble for them. The house was super warm and clean, and all the lovely little details for comfort had been thought of. Dinner was superb and there was wine! Top marks, infact 11/10. Best wishes to Dee and Sean and many many thanks.

Rolling into Kohukohu after cycling for 12 hours on day one of this years Tour Aotearoa Brevet, I was greeted with a large bottle of ice cold water and an even better bottle of ice cold beer, from my wonderful hosts Dee and Sean from the Historic Kohukohu Villa. There amazing restored villa was what I needed for a good nights rest and recovery. With all the amenities needed for cycling including a safe space to store your bike, I was well prepared for the next day on the road. Thanks guys for looking after me.

Prepare to be delighted with your choice of the Historic Kohukohu Villa. After reading the glowing Stuff article in 2022 about the Villa by Brook Sabin I stored this away as a special weekend away destination.Well we have just returned from a pampered stay with Dee and Sean at the Historic Kohukohu Villa and we agree with Stuff. The experience can't be faulted from the ingenuity of the Villa's interiors and attention to detail, through to the incredible meals. We opted for dinner in-house to enjoy the perfectly cooked local fare served with skill and a genuine love of hospitality. In terms of the gorgeous room it was full of opulent touches and short of nothing. From start to finish Dee and Sean deliver the magic to create a restful and luxurious experience and your only job is to soak it up. If you are thinking about exploring the heart of the Hokianga then look no further.
