Terrible stay. The hostel is fine but the manager entered in the room at 22h30 pm without knocking or introducing himself, yelling to everyone because he was looking for empty beds for two girls who arrived late. He pushed the boys towels away and came back a second time to bring the two poor girls, yelling again. So rude and unprofessional. Never saw this in any hostel before. Highly don’t recommand.

We love this place! The common room is just so amazing and cozy and warm - it’s so nice to warm up and not be freezing for once! Such a great value for your money (we stayed on an unpowered site)

The hostel in itself is ok. Shower and bathrooms are clean. Kitchen is good. Bed are acceptable but tend to cave in.What made this experience really terrible for us (I’m travelling with my cousin) was the manager. He barged in our room without a knock or a word at 11pm screaming incomprehensible words and throwing people things around the room violently. This was a very scary moment because he never said who he was; I really taught my life was in danger. We finally understood that he was asking if there was any free beds in the room. Then he stormed off. He came back, screaming and swearing again, with two girls that looked absolutely terrified of him (apparently he had just done the same thing in front of them in another room next door). He had also screamed at the girls because they checked in too late. We asked him who he was the second time he came in the room and he just screamed “I’M THE MANAGER!” and then stormed off again. The whole thing was so disrespectful and unprofessional. It felt super unsafe to stay there after. I would highly recommend to stay elsewhere just because of him. I feel like he needs medical attention.

Manager Dave and assistant George absolutely fantastic at making our 6 night family of 6 stay enjoyable. Pool was good. well stocked kitchen. Owners need to spend some money on basics such as fans and screens for bugs. Would definitely stay again and recommend staying. Felt safe and supported by Dave who went above and beyond for us. Owners should try keep him in his role. Thank you to Nic also.

I spent a night here. The location was convenient and the place had everything that I needed. I stayed in a 6-bed room and it felt spacious enough. The bed was reasonably comfortable and clean. The kitchen was big and there was plenty of space for multiple people to cook at a time. The highlight was of course the resident dog, George! He was really friendly and had an infectious zest for life.

It's a hostel, it has its advantages and disadvantages. You can't expect 5 star service at 1 star price. The wifi has a limited user cap and sometimes I couldn't connect. I didn't use the kitchen, but I'm sure it does the job. It's in the middle of nowhere surrounded by wilderness, so there are tons of bugs.Saggy bed and I believe the sheets were clean, I didn't smell it to find out.

Absolutely 100% Dave the manager is a hoot typical kiwi his dog George. Us three women are the older age group. It's damn good value price wise. Not one complaint. It's was cold rainy weather Dave had this Kenworth fire going warmed the place up. Two of my friends had never been in a hostel in their lives they were impressed.

Best hostel/campsite I've done in NZ.Decent prices (17NZD/night for campsite), very clean and partial facilities, including hot showers, clean toilets, a well-equiped and tidy kitchen, and a very cosy common area.Bonus : a real pool, a tennis court and farm animals, really close to waitomo. The staff is really nice and friendly.
