Beautiful track! Go on after the hut to Triangle hut or make it a loop via Deadman track. Stunning varied walk!

Drive past Crosshills and Enter at Renfrew road. There are Toilets at carpark. From here jump the style and do a quick turn right and from this point you climb.Through native bush up and up zigzagging until you reach the ghost trees amidst the mist.It eventually flattened out but not for long. You reach an open space and more clothing is required. From here it is open ground and trench walking, maybe a hiking pole would come to good use.Follow the Waratahs up and up keep climbing you will see Ruapaehu .1583 m .It is a Medium to hard walk which with stops takes around 6 hours to get to Rangiwahia hut.

Easy flowing and very suitable for beginners to stay overnight at the 1st hut. Lovely view of Ruapehu and Tongariro on a fine day.

A great track to Rangiwahia hut. The track climbs steadily through mountain beech forest to some impressive views of Ruahines. There is a large slide to bypass, then a descent to an impressive-looking bridge over a canyon. A final climb to the hut gets to the the sub-alpine and the tussock. Highly recommended.
