Got a quote for a towbar. I gave my registration number and received quote via text next day of $1,318. Went to another place and paid $515 all up.

I went here for a work and income quote and they charged me $79 to look at my car without telling me there would be this cost. I have never been charged for a quote ever! I suggest using any other mechanics than this, all other competitors in town will not charge for a wins quote or to have a quick look at the problem and will happily help. This work shop was $400 more expensive than any other place in town and alot less friendly and welcoming I will never go there again!! Pays to look around, I would avoid this place if you can.

I got a wof for our caravan and the next day the wheel fell off it doing 100 kph on a main highway. I rang hokitika autos who have done alot of work on it previously made me wait before sending someone out for about an hour . After taking the wheel and hub to fix I was then made to sit on the side of the road for about 1.5 to 2 hours waiting for them to bring my wheel back. After returning they forgot the main nut that holds the hub in place so again more delays in the rain. 1 of the guys I questioned said the bearing was fine and another said it was needing attention I didnt know who to believe. So after all that stress I still had to pay for them to fix my wheel when I dont think I should have been charged at all. I'd never recommend this auto shop to anyone even the policeman that helped me said to take my vehicles somewhere else due to there reputation. My neighbor also had a bad experience with them but I thought I'd give them a chance as u cant believe everything you here. Lesson learned trust yr neighbors and instincs.

We were very disappointed in the service after a simple oil change in this place. After paying $175 for the job (which took them almost an hour altho it should be a very simple procedure for a mechanic), when we went to the car the oil change light was still on. We went to ask if they could finish the job and preset the light but they basically told us that it will cost more (it's part of another service" - how is the oil change light not part of the oil change?) and we can do it ourselves with google.After this outraging service we sure would rather do everything by ourselves instead of going to places like this."

I was really happy with their kindness and felt confident to leave my car with them. Unfortunately after they fixed my steering, my steering wheel started making noises everytime I am driving. I fully understand that people are not perfect and do mistakes but what I really did not like was the fact that they told me they could not hear the noises when I brought my car back to them to recheck it. Even after I showed them a video of using my steering wheel, they were just annoyed and said its nothing to be worried about.I cannot recommend this place. They just rip you off and are not even good enough to recognize an obvious sound which started just after they fixed my steering.

We were on holiday, and broke down. Shelley and the team got us in the right direction for accommodation, rental car, at the same time as they were pricing the repair. Within 2hrs, we knew all our options and could carry on with our holiday. Great service and a friendly team made the whole experience easier. Highly recommend.

True professionals who know what they're doing. James the auto electrician sorted a relay out for my campervan with very clean electric work. The ladies at the store front Shelley and Barbara-Ann were very helpful. The shop is fairly priced, compared to the rip off shops out there. Would recommend.

Guys from Total automotive are the best! Thanks to them we can continue with our trip around NZ with feeling that we actually have our van fixed. We came to them with weird sound coming from our engine, they took some extra time for the right diagnoses which saved us a lot of troubles, time and money as well. Those guys know what they are doing and they are happy to explain what is wrong and how they want to fix it, just everything you need from automotive. Ladies at the office are also very friendly and helpful, easy to communicate with. If I can I would give them more than five stars! Thank you very much for everything you have done for us!

We came in with a radiator leak. After waiting at a competitor for a full day for a radiator to arrive on order. Total automotive diagnosed the problem and got us back on the road same day for far less than the competition had quoted us. They seemed to have a better understanding of our issues as well. They explained our options clearly and didn't dance around how much it would cost. Thank you, 5 stars!
