This place is an epic experience. If you are a kiwi history buff, this is a must see. So glad we called in here on our north island road trip enroute to Gisborne.

Small museum which has made full use of the space and lots of very interesting exhibits with good signage. Many on our bus would have liked more time there. Well done!

A bit gloomy and crowded with colonial history. Would suggest adding a balanced view. Maybe create space using color pea? Invite pieces for display from Te Papa... etc. Reinvigorate with legends of our tipua...i notice there's a lovely hint of the old jurassic days back to the moa... Interweave local Indigenous knowledge of the universe... maybe the artifacts could be lovingly cared for by descendants... where possible of course... the table of moving photos is cool... it should feature right away...it's very tactile. Telling local stories using that medium or Walkman mp3... would be amazing! I think overall it's a really cool space engari could do with a bit more 21st century vibe.

Well placed for a beach front holiday with popular walkway nearby, which was nice. We had a comfortable two roomed unit which allowed family to visit us. Would stay there again.
