If you are looking for Pounamu in Auckland then you *must* go here. Amazing service, beautiful workmanship, excellent price, and a deep connection to the craft. I initially saw some of Ernesto's work in a shop by the ferries and was pleased to find that his workshop is very close to the CBD - boy was it worth the short trip. The gallery in the workshop is wonderfully laid out, and Ernesto and his son were extremely welcoming. They have a range of peices (Hei Matau, Hei Toki, earrings etc) for any budget and occasion and the Pounamu selection was impeccable with a beautiful range of shades and colour. Ernesto's son also makes silver rings with Pounamu settings - which were exceptional. I couldn't have asked for a better service and I was impressed that they also run a restoration service if you every need it. 11/10

Thank you to Sebastian for help in picking out a piece for mum today. As others have commented the quality and skill of the workmanship is amazing. It was important for me to be supporting local businesses and skilled professionals vs likely mass-produced souvenir shop produced pieces. The personal touch and attention to detail was wonderful.Mum loves her pounamu and will be wearing it all the way back to the UK and for years to come. Thank you!

I cannot recommend this place enough. Ernesto was amazing, clearly very knowledgeable and passionate about his craft. He explained the process and my options for repair clearly and did a wonderful job - my pounamu is not just fixed but better than it was before! He was also very kind and did and incredibly quick turnaround time for me as broke my necklace just before leaving the country.I would trust him with any repair job and judging by the level of his skills, I have no doubt his new pieces are equally well made. Thanks for all your help!

Lovely place to go. Truly a wonderful place. My wife and I recommend you buy from them instead of going to the tourist Asian owned ones.Prices were a little higher than we were looking at but we were more than happy to be giving our money to such an amazing family and such beautiful workmanship. I would recommend all to visit their shop and gaze upon the wonder that is held within. To the owner... Ernesto,If you are reading this it's with love from Max and Michael.Wish I could have given you more than the little Johnny Reb sticker.

Couldn't be happier with my whole experience with Ernesto and his team. I had a new cord woven for a very old taonga that I was anxious to leave. My taonga was in safe and loving hands and my new cord is perfect. I learned how my taonga had been shaped and etched with traditional instruments, so bonus history lesson too. It makes me happy to exchange $$ to see such skilled artisans at work. Not a tourist shop but a real artisan workshop

Had a wonderful experience here getting gifts to take home to my family, the owner was so kind and knowledgable, and you could feel the care and craftsmanship in all of their pieces. If you want to get a truly beautiful, well crafted, and ethically sourced pounamu and support a lovely local family business, this is the place!

Thank you Ernesto. We cannot express enough the wonderful experience that we had working with Ernesto (the owner) and meeting his son at Oronegro. We researched the meaning of the shapes and materials used for the necklaces and visited other jewelers. The quality of the materials used and the workmanship was clearly different than other shops. Ernesto is passionate and educated about his artistic materials and we appreciated his passion for his works with pounamu. The Light’s - March 2023

My bracelet was broken and I went to have it rewoven, I was initially offered a price I could accept, after I picked it up I was told it would cost $180, a man said it was very difficult to do and took an hour and a half, the price of my bracelet was already the same as this repair, I just had the rope rewoven and not the stone repaired, I will never come back and I waited 1 week for this.I once had it repaired in China for NZ$4 for a 20 minute wait, nearly 50 times the price, which is ridiculous and absurd. This shop should have charged the fee in advance rather than deliberately ripping off the customer at the time of collection.

Endless thanks to Ernesto, his family and team in fabricating these pair of beautiful pounamu, and going the extra mile in view of the tight timeframe. It was truly an amazing end-to-end experience in this custom-made journey. Ernesto provided regular updates and expert advice along the way to shape the stone to perfection. It was wonderful of Ernesto to patiently go through the rich history of pounamus and feel his deep understanding and respect for the greenstones. The craftsmanship of Ernesto's pounamus have a nautral raw beauty to them which tell a story on their own.For anyone visiting Auckland who is intending to gift pounamu to loved ones, it is highly recommended to visit Oroneegro and go through a similar incredible journey! :)- Wong Jun Yan, May 2023
