We originally wanted to buy a male and a female guinea pig and planned on letting them breed. The staff member explained that that was not going to be allowed as they were rescue guinea pigs and all related. I then said OK and asked for two female ones. I was then asked a series of questions in a very abrupt manner about if I had ever had them before, how big would their enclosure be etc...I think that it is really good that a pet shop checks put any potential owner of a pet and makes sure that a) the pet owner is aware of what is involved and b) that the pet will be safe. However, it was her manner that I became uncomfortable with., although I understand her passion and dedication. Her manner was abrasive and she detracted from what should have been a fun experience opening our home to new animals.We have a lifestyle property and they would have been living in a very large outdoor cage in the shelter of an orchard with a large indoor area and a big run with a ladder etc to run up. They would have had the company of our free range hens. I had guinea pigs as a child and so did my son. We did not like how we were treated today, which is a shame. I was fully intending to buy treats for our dogs and 2 guinea pigs.
