If you don’t have light on your bike, don’t forget to bring some headlamp as the tunnel is really dark with no light inside and one feels pretty scary :)

+ Nice, easy walk+ That's a long tunnel!+ Pretty interesting info panels, but they are at the far end of the tunnel- Not a loop track, once you reach the end of the tunnel, you walk back the way you cameMake sure to take a torch, and don't touch the walls, they are saturated with soot

Another wee experience ticked off the bucket list. Easy ride through the tunnel. Was pleased I wore my jacket. Lights a must although their are cats eyes along the sides. We continued down to the Belgrove pub for lunch. Going back was a lot slower as it is a continual steady incline back to the tunnel and through to the car park.

A good headlight and tail light on the bike a must. The tunnel floor is good and even. Lovely and cool on hot day.

Nice easy gradient to ride up from the Wai-iti side. Requires a light as this is one looong tunnel with a bonus on having a nice smooth surface to ride on.

A walk through history, taking about 25 min. Easy stroll with good underfoot shared cycleway. We walked south to north and enjoyed the 3 plus km walk to our pickup vehicle ...other option to walk back through tunnel to carpark. Yes need a torch/ headlamp.

A fantastic family outing experienced, walking the Spooners Tunnel. Lights a must, inside of the tunnel is cool. Walking one way took 20 minutes with two under 8 year olds. An easy walk on a good hard-packed track. Great to walk the historic tunnel.
