Paradise

Complimentary photo. Needed to be done. Nothing there apart from lovely views. Quite a long gravel road so keep in mind if wanting to travel here. Get a 4wd if you want to continue driving through the fords.

I have been up here a few times now, and love it. The scenery on the way, with the mountains is wonderful. Don't just stop at Paradise though, continue up the road to at least the High Country Horses sign (another 5 mins up the road), as the views from there open up looking further up the Dart River, or looking back toward Paradise. You can go further up the road still, but one or two of the fords start to get a bit bigger (depending on time of year - I have only been in winter), and were more than I was prepared to do in my small 2 wheel drive - at Cassel's Creek - (wish I could have gone further - up where more of Lord of the Rings was filmed, but not prepared to risk it). Even though I was in the afternoon on most recent trip, still had icicle's hanging off the hills on the road into Paradise.Diamond lake can give some great reflections, especially when viewed from the woods, but there is very few places you can stop in that section of the road, which is quite spectacular driving through the trees (used in Lord of the Rings).I see some reviews say it is not worth it, and the road is bumpy - it is a gravel road with a few fords to cross, so that is expected. Paradise does just have the sign, the large house, and a few more houses dotted around, but it is the location and scenery that makes the place, as I say, if you can travel further up the road, and enjoy the additional views (note if overcast and low cloud, you will not see most of the mountains).

What can we say: needed to be done. A lovely little drive out for some beautiful scenery and the obligatory photo beside the Paradise sign. Luckily we stopped to help and Italian couple who couldn’t do a selfie. Reciprocated photos and headed back on our way.

Can’t complain, just a regular green sign on the side of the road.Sufficient parking so you can pull off for a photo.

What else can I say, I went to Paradise and come back. It was extremely serene, quite, beautiful views
