Monckton Scenic Reserve
Awesome little bush walk for the family, loads of native trees and birds. Not pram friendly on the loop track. But there is a nice path up to the picnic area that is.The swing bridge was rebuilt in 2021 so easy to get to the track.Our 4yo did the full loop easily so it not a hard walk.Lovely little stream for the kiddies to splash around in also.

The track is currently closed. A tree has fallen and taken the bridge out at the start; so it's unlikely to be reopened soon.

Decent place with a good walk although the main bridge has been removed. You can still get across the river by walking on some stepping stones.

Great loop walk for any fitness level! Takes about an hour but the sign says 1.5-2 hours Good path to walk on and shady. Heard so many Tuis in the big trees.

Awesome walk well with a visit. It's about 90 minutes to do the full track or 30 minutes for the smaller tracks.

My daughter & I came here a few weeks ago. I'm from Takapau & have fond memories of the dam here. Back in the days, it was called Lowe's dam. There were Lowes families, living in the area. Don't think I took much thoughts into the reserve, after all I was here for a swim & being young as well.The scenic walk was peaceful & transquil. I thought how lucky we are, while war is going on in Ukraine. I needed this therapy to get out of tthe house.

What an awesome place for a little adventure. I had the whole place to myself, a bit eerie but peaceful. Prepare to get your feet wet! Stream crossing.
