This place is a must if you a are riding the Otago Rail trail. The homestead is lovely and the old engineering works really intestinal. And they have a cafe.

Fantastic place to stop on a drive through the Ida Valley. Delicious food and great coffee before or after a tour of the museum. Really interesting history of a clever, hard working pioneering family.

Stopped here on day 2 of the ORT and so glad I did - it's got to be one of the best cafes I've ever been to. They make all the pies and cakes themselves on site. Caramel oat slice was particularly awesome.

Hayes Engineering is an interesting historical engineering works and homestead. The workshop, and smithy are still there. They designed and manufactured many farm implements.The homestead is set out nicely as it would have been by its inhabitants.

Although the entry price is high it’s well worth a stop. Great coffee fantastic cheese rolls. Very busy as is on the cycle trail.

A rare glimpse into NZ's manufacturing history. Of special interest is the overhead system of shafts and pully's that drive the plant. Also a shop with great coffee and food.
