We stopped here for a coffee and a sandwich on SH43 as it sounded interesting. Sadly it seems to trade on it’s novelty as a ‘republic’. The service was indifferent, the barman was charmless despite my wife’s cheery greeting. The food was dull, tasteless and expensive ($14 for a ham sandwich). Even the toilets said ‘for customers only’., hardly a welcome to travellers from afar.It wasn’t even busy, so no excuse for being so disinterested. I’d recommend you take photos and drive on.

Fantastic food, the steak meal was excellent. Grab your passport while you are there. Staff are great and so is their service and humour

Location, location, location.Great road. Classic country pub in middle of nowhere to use as a rest-stop, ... or a destination in it's own right, just as an excuse to drive/ride that road.

The forgotten highway offers extraordinary breathtaking views as you wind up and down the mountains. This place is great for a stop, recharge and place to eat. The publican was so nice to is and even gave my boys a free chocolate for an upcoming birthday.Got my passport stamped to prove I passed through the Republic. Great tale about how it ceded from NZ.....and yes the decision was made over many beers. Good on them. You must do the lost highway and you must stop at the pub for all your needs. Thanks for having us.

Great little stop with friendly staff interesting artifacts around the pub. The cider looked like water but apparently it wasn't bad

Winding road to get there, so drive safe and be aware of cars etc coming around the corner. The hospitality of the Hotel is very good and very friendly. Food is good. Cool little town in the middle of nowhere.
