Copthorne Hotel and Resort Bay of Islands

I can understand why this hotel has the reviews it has. It does feel outdated but not enough to really hinder its amazingness. The shower was rubbish and every single room has a heat pump located directly outside, meaning there is a constant humming when trying to sleep... But it is kind of therapeutic!The view is incredible, the staff are great, and the bed is so comfortable we've decided to buy it when we come to change mattresses back home!The pool area is lovely but be prepared, it is freezing cold. Which again is a big shame.I would stay here again, but it's a shame, because for a small investment into infrastructure and updating its facilities, this hotel could become 5x as good.

Great view from our Superior 2 Doubles with Sea View and a quiet, family oriented pool. Easy walk to the Waitangi Treaty Grounds.However the facilities need an update. The water pressure in the shower made it difficult to bathe, the furniture and shutters had a lot of wear and tear, no smart tv, etc. The breakfast was a big spread, but the cost was very high for average food.

The food here is absolutely HORRENDOUS! $49 for a horrible buffet, so NOT worth the money. I can't explain how abysmal the food was. The best thing on the menu was the mini gherkins!!! The food was DISGUSTING. If they could sort this out, then it would be a great place cos the beds are super comfy and good air conditioning.

We usually stay in a room with sea views, this time we stayed in a room with a garden view we were directed to room 722The corridors to the room were so dark it was dismal but we thought once we got to the room it would be bright with a garden view.On opening the door my heart sank it was again dark enough to have to put the lights on at about 3pm.The view was of trees that blocked out a lot of light.Next time we stay will definitely get the room with sea views as they are lovelyOnly there for one night.The reception staff were very nice as was the entrance it was just that block heading to our room and the trees too close to allow sun light in

Great location next to sea but rooms are a bit small for families. Pools could be cleaner but kids still had a good time. Sea views are with it.

Stayed here for the first time over new years eve and it was nice. Lovely, comfy large beds fitted with a heat pump and a little deck area to look out towards the sea. Felt more secluded than the other spots in Paihia, like it's own private island. Staff were quite friendly and helpful, especially the concierge team with a nice young lad that suggested the best way to Cape Reinga and recommended some spots along the way. The pool is also quite handy, although the local kids tend to sneak in over the fence from time to time. The buffet was also not too bad, cutlery could be cleaner though, and perhaps hotel updated, as it's showing its age.

Had intended on hiring Waitaha for a wedding venue. This is a beautiful location and the space was ideal, however the inside is very dark with little natural light which is a shame with the view possibilities.We were disappointed with the non-negotiable service and the price per person to hire was very expensive for the meal you receive.You were also charged $2 pp for them to cut and serve your wedding cake.Doesn't surprise me why it's never utilized.

They charged us nearly $300 a night, and we were really disappointed. You walk into the building, and you are greeted with the old damp carpet smell. It doesn't get any better from there. The rooms are 40 years old, run down, tired, and worn down. Very disappointing for $300 a night, that's theft. It's an OK hotel if you pay around $100 a night.

This was an interesting experience. We booked x3 rooms for a family reunion. They had lost our booking despite ushaving confirmation on us - it took nearly 2 hours to find us a room, and the duty manager was pretty rude and while we could see he was under the pump it was distressing. Eventually he found us another room.Staff were friendly after the traumatic beginning, but our room was dirty and run down. Moldy bathroom with wobbly loo seat,2 broken lightswitches, hairs in bath, stained duvet and ancient cracked tiles. The shower was cold and only a dribble.It was dusty and dirty.The room was called superior and priced accordingly - but cannot imagine how it deserves that title.The rooms our family were in had mirrors - ours had a space with nails in wall but no mirror.We had fun with our family and acknowledge that many staff were friendly but the entire place felt in need of an urgent upgrade and a massive clean.
