A really good free experience. The fences that others have mentioned are less than 1.5m (5ft) tall so are very easy to look over. Anyway the best views of the glow worms is up!

Just off the road, about 2-3 minutes drive from Hokitika town centre,and a minute’s slow walk up a slope, for a beautiful sight of glow worms all around. As the glow worms are only really visible at night, do visit after the sun has set. Small lights from your phone should be enough to light up the floor - don’t shine them upwards as it will hinder others’ ability to see the glow worms.

This is awesome and free!Try to go as late as possible and close to a new moon so you get the full glow.I came back from half way around the world to bring my husband here. It is really amazing IFIt’s dark and there’s no noise.There’s a great place right across the road from the glow worm dell that has ocean front cabins or nice RV spots.When you’re in the dell you can hear the roar of the ocean.Enjoy!HappiTravels Vacation Rentals Newport Beach California

My favourite place in NZ to see glowworms and its free! Such a magical feeling when you walk in to the forest and they are everywhere like stars in the sky, breath takingly beautiful!

Just a short 400m from the highway, and very very close to Hokitika township. The small sign can be easily missed. Visit after dust, and bring a torch to light your way in (but do remember to switch off the light in-order to not scare the glow worms and to see their glow). Not as many glow worms as other more popular places, but given it's free and open 24hrs, it's a 5 ⭐ review!

Beautiful, easy access and free spot to see glow worms on the west coast. The later you go the better since they are best seen in the dark. Don't direct flashlights straight at the walls since the worms will get affected. If you want to have a look at the dell walls it is a nice place also during the day.

Magical place with an eerie atmosphere. Must see!Literally just 1min walk to the dell from the road and free. Best to go when it’s completely dark.

Great spot when you e got a few spare minutes. A 30sec walk and you'll be surrounded my hundred of beautiful glowworms. The illumination of you cellphone will be all you need then turn it off and enjoy
