Kakanui Camping Ground

We have been there to see the new year in for last few years and I have to say that this year was the most memorable. New owners Ryan and Freyaja were Awsum hosts mingling with all the guests &,the complementary feed of bbq ribs for everyone on Saturday night was a really nice gesture Great place to relax & let your hair down with family,friends & our pooch. See you next year,guys.

I’m reluctant to leave a review in case this hidden wee spot of kiwi paradise becomes too popular! We’ve been coming for a number of years now and it just gets better and better each year. We had 8 families rock up this New Years holiday some having caravans/tents/buses or hiring the gorgeous cabins- everyone was happy and well accommodated with ample space to play and explore. Including the dog.The hosts are a wonderful young family (with gorgeous children and a dog called Burt) who make you feel very welcome and go the extra mile. A genuine kiwi camp experience close to everything yet far away enough to feel your off grid for much need r&r. Amenities are spotless and there always great vibes amongst campers. 10 stars ⭐️

Hosts very friendly and welcomed our 3 friendly dogs. Cabin was big enough for 2 adults, no private bathrooms. Sheets were not clean and room needs refresh. Shared bathroom toilet facility very old & tired, needs new facility. Shared kitchen also very old needs refresh. New owners, so hopefully can update buildings. Grounds were immaculate, lovely green freshly mowed lawns and high hedge windbreaker, close to beaches.

This is such a fabulous wee gem of a camping ground. Hosts are super helpful and friendly. Love their doggy Burt, he's so cruisy and didn't worry about our overexcited foxy.The camp sites are really generous and the grounds are beautiful.A really idyllic setting especially loved hearing all the bird life and waves at night.Can't wait to go back

We had a powered site so we did not have access to rooms but they looked very cute and had everything you would need. Bathrooms were cleaned frequently and had lots of soap hand towels and toilet paper available. The kitchen-lounge area was also well frequented however some people need a lesson in washing your own dishes. They DO NOT magically get washed. Lawns and sites were well maintained. Very handy location and could fall asleep listening to the sea.

This camping ground is under new ownership they treated us very well went there with my brother his son and my daughter stay there for two nights and thoroughly enjoyed kakanui we walked swam and fish service was excellent and the people were extra friendly all I have to say is thank you for letting us stay I will be back

We had our two families staying at the camping ground at the start of January. What a fabulous place, plenty of places to walk, fish, bodyboard and swim. Safe beach and river with plenty of space. Ryan and Freyja were so relaxed and accommodating to our large group. The facilities were good, and it was cool to see the upgrades they had planned for the future. A great wee spot that we would thoroughly recommend to other families.Thanks for a great break.Mark and Jo Maddren

We've just returned from a 3 night stay here in tents (2 adults, 5 kids) great atmosphere with lovely people and great rates, there's everything you need and the kids loved the river/beach right out the back gate and the friendly camp doggo was a highlight for them. Thank you guys we really enjoyed our stay :)

We had a lovely stay at Kakanui Camping ground. Beautiful grounds and Beautiful area to stay. Lovely beach and great that this is a dog friendly camp site. Owners are fantastic and even did a cook up on new years eve...really went above and beyond. If you are planning on visiting...just do it!

Had a great stay at this little campground. Beautiful location. While it has limited facilities it still worked fine and Ryan, the new owner, definitely has the vision to turn this into a top campground. Definitely worth a stay!!
