A big thank you to Steve at Johnston Motors. One of my tires exploded (scary and dangerous) while I was driving near Haast. I showed up unannounced, and they were willing to sell and mount a new spare for me (in the middle of an already busy work day). I was able to continue on my way, with minimal delay. Steve was prompt and helpful. Thanks again.

A mini supermarket is there. 91,95 petrol and diesel available. But 95 is not available as per the put up notice. The only fuel station for next 88kms as it says on the notices towards Wanaka. It is a very tiny station. Fuel prices are bit expensive than usual, may be due to transportation. If there was an option to rate the fuel stop, it would at least be 3 star. But, this single star is due to the mechanic. There was an old mechanic, who did not care at all. He said he has not got time and try myself fixing where he assumed the issue might have been. That was totally unpleasant. Never recommend that mechanic. At least he did not say sorry, I dnt have time. Never go there. Why you would want to experience that as a customer?

Do not support this business. Go to the Mobil gas down the road. The old mechanic guy is very rude and abrupt. So is the lady at the gas station store. Super grumpy do not stop here and support this business as he seems to act like he’s too busy to help when there’s no cars here. Asks you to move your car when there’s absolutely nobody else at the petrol station. Go to the Mobil a few kms down the road and support that business. People like this think they can get away with mistreating people because they’re the only petrol station and mechanic for 120kms. They have nothing better to do than bully people who have no choice going through here for gas or breakdowns. Terrible customer service and just in general people skills. Even the young man in the mechanics was rude.

When I can give - stars this mechanic would get it. I have never see such unfriendly and mean person in New Zealand. So watch out if you need some help, he wants to rip you off and makes money out of your misery and gets offensive to you. And the gas at the gas station was also the most expensive gasoline I payed. So skip this place if you can.

One could get all the regular essential stuff required for a trip plus fuel at this place. Please don’t compare with those flashy fuel stations with this humble place. The staff are friendly and helpful (please do respect them).

The alternator of our camper stopped working and so we had to get it repaired. We did not have to wait too long and got our van fixed. The mechanic exactly what to do and fixed the van, even showed and clearly explained what was wrong. Perfect service!

The mechanic Eamonn towed us into Haast and did a very good job, that was the last thing he did that was good.Eamonn should not be dealing with the public. He is rude, bad mannered, bad tempered and a very sour person.If it is at all possiable you should try to avoid this man.
