Quirky cafe. River shingle floor. Trees and birds inside - oh and goldfish! The food is homemade and delicious - never been disappointed yet. The carrot cake is almost as good as mine!

We came down from Auckland over Easter, just to visit The Cellar Door Restaurant & Cafe, well I have bought a house as well, still waiting to hear on that.We loved the food - really terrific, excellent menu, and the wine was superb. I just had to have 'Trevs Red' - the very best, my new favourite wine. When we move down permanently by end May, The Cellar Door will be our 'place to go'

Wonderful food and wine. Service was exceptional. Our server was lovely. The location was the only letdown. It was a bit cold but we were given heaters and lap rugs. Will definitely be returning!

Worst place to have lunch ever. So gutted we went there for lunch today! Waited over an hour with a toddler... to get ok food, but pretty small portion. Wanted to add chips or something but had to wait another half hour so just left the place frustrated, hungry, and way later than planned. Still had time for one wine tasting in a vineyard close by where we met a couple coming from the same place and as gutted as we were that they spent their afternoon there doing nothing.I don't care about your relocation thing because of the risks of fire: if you can't host people, just don't do it.Wine was pretty good though.

Good coffee. Wine very good. Ambiance a little bit rustic for my taste. Recommend.

We arranged a small Friday evening party at The Cellar Door. The staff were really accomodating and made excellent suggestions. We had around 25 adults and 15 kids and it was a perfect venue for us. The food and drinks were great and I would heartily recommend The Cellar Door to anyone. We will be back again to dine privately very soon. Give it a try; I am sure you'll enjoy it.

Came here to taste Waimea's wines (due to recent fires, their tasting room at the winery is closed for summer 2018 and they're serving here instead). Tasting is $5 for 3 wines (which they refund if you purchase bottles to take home). There were 11 to try when we were there; we picked 9 and got a splash of a tenth as a bonus. Neal, the manager, was knowledgeable and great fun to talk to.The wines were all quite good. We especially liked the whites, including their Albariño (good tartness), Sauvignon Gris (yes, Gris, not Blanc -- all the best of the Blanc grape but much more complexity. Great for all kinds of food.), the Classic Reisling (sweeter, but not too sweet. Would be really nice as part of a dessert cheese platter), and the Pinot Gris, which had a nice balance on the nose between the fruit and floral, but what really made it special was the creamy mouthfeel (sometimes called oily, but that sounds negative to me). We thought this was amazing. The rose is a nice summer wine, the reds were good (the Trev's was really interesting! Not at all what we expected based on the nose.), but the whites are really where it's at (IMHO of course).Bottles were between $20-25 each, which we thought was a great value, especially considering how many awards they've gotten for their wines. As for Cellar Door, itself, we didn't try any of the food, though it looked good. They have really nice indoor and outdoor seating. The indoor seating is very airy and bright with lots of plants, so it still feels like an outdoor experience, and outdoor had lots of shady spots, which is great especially for those doing the biking Taste Trail (we saw a lot of people drop in). Highly recommend this place!
