Great beach with fine sand and a small estuary that the little kids can paddle in. Most days there is good surf for some level whether it be boogie boarders or long board surfers on a calm day or advanced surfers on a day with larger surf. The gradient is moderate where you can wade out a fair way before it gets too deep to stand but due to the swell you need to get out into deep water before you are able to swim or tread water in the calm rollers instead of the waves breaking. Some care needs to be had as with most surf beaches as there is an area with a rip, not severe on this beach but present so take care.

Awesome beach, cool creek/stream for tamariki (or keen adults!) to splash around in, surf, lot's of space, toilets, decent parking (when not busy) & easy to get too.Definitely worth the visit. I'd imagine most surfers know about the place, but if you're from out of town & not in the know, they hold surf comps here, so it's definitely a good wave spot.Cheers.

Great sandy beach to spend time at. Carpark and toilet area very close to the beach. Semi surf area depending on the wind and ocean.

Such a beautiful place hidden from most of the world and most of new Zealand.This country has so many beautiful coastline places to visit and this one has a camping ground at a very reasonable price $18 a night well recommended if you want to get away from it all and then enjoy nature and the end of Summer only a short drive from Auckland 2 1/2 hours but so many beautiful things to see on the way well worth taking the whole day stay the night enjoy the morning come back and see the rest of the sites a short trip but well worth it
