Fox Glacier Top 10 Holiday Park & Motels

A lovely spot to park my campervan for a couple of days and enjoy the beauty and serenity. Lovely warm showers with plenty of room and a great kitchen. I had a great view of the mountains from my camp site

Our stay was short, arrived in the dark, practically left in the dark. Unfortunately had to wash the wine glasses before they could be used they were so badly covered in smudge marks from finger prints. But so far on our two week south island tour we've had to do that at every Top 10 Holiday Park. Perhaps it's standard.

This is a big, clean, quiet really well-run tourist park with great options for all budgets.There’s camping, van sites and dozens of small, but well-equipped permanent cabins.The park also has a great kids play area, 2 huge kitchens, and a decent coin operated laundry (though half the machines are broken so you may find yourselves having to wait).We chose a small cabin, and while space was tight, it enabled us to have a small separate sitting room, our own bathroom, and enough space to cook our own meals.However, beware, the small store in town doesn’t have a lot of stock, so buy up at Franz Josef or other places before you get here, or you’ll be struggling.We stayed 3 nights and found it the perfect base for both glaciers and the nearby Lake Matheson café.

Booked a cabin, $90. NO kitchen items, jug, near bathrooms are closed. Wanted to charge $5 for a set of plastic cutlery. No plates cup or glasses. 1 power point. No fridge. Very poor. Hate it. They should be charging backpackers rates.No

Having now stayed in a few top 10 parks I think I’ve been put off :( they squish you in like sardines, there is never any room to park the car near your caravan and so there is also no privacy at all, you’re looking directly into other people’s vans. We also had people staying in a motel room and these are definitely substandard and musty smelling. I wouldn’t stay here next time we come through

It was fine. No pans or dishes in the kitchen. It was raining while we were here so that maybe factors into my rating, but this place had kind of a cold, steile feeling and was very different from the other holiday parks we stayed at during our trip. An extra star due to the small glow worm walk past the dump station. We saw glow worms!

Staff were friendly and helpful. Helped with a map showed us activities and restaurants to try.We had a self contained unit so didn't use the shared facilities but the shower had really good pressure. The trampoline and playground was perfect for our toddler who loves to climb. The spa pool was very nice and easy to book.

Small section out of the way for non powered with no shaded spots. The non powered sites are quite far away from showers/toilets etc.. And no option to be placed closer. In fact as far away as you can get. Slow WiFi but decent to browse websites. Water has ecoli so we were asked not to wash our faces!

As requested, here are more comments about our more than bad experience at this top 10. We arrive an hour before closing time and still there was no one at reception, our infos were in a late-arrival box, even if we were not late-arrival. People tend to arrive before closing time to ask for coins to use the laundry, book a spa session and just ask questions about the surroundings. When i called to speak with an employee, she was so rude that i didn’t even bother to ask her anything since we were only staying there one night. The place was so crowded in general, haven’t had the chance to use the showers because they were always occupied when i try to go. Only one BBQ was working because the other didn’t had gaz anymore or was just broken… Didn’t had the chance to use it because there were so many people waiting to use the only working one. Floors were so slippery in the restrooms because the showers were constantly running, and before going to sleep one toilet didn’t have toilet paper anymore… the next morning it was 2 out of 3 with not toilet paper. I explained in details all the things that were not convenient in the satisfaction survey sent to us after our stay with absolutely no come-back at us, that really is a shame and a poor way to deal with customers. More amenities should have been opened and if you have an on-call staff, just make sure she is being nice to customers, especially when they do are calling during normal office hours. We had amazing time in other Top 10 locations around New Zealand, but Fox Glacier was definitely not worth our stay.
