A very interesting place to learn some mining history plus a great walk or you can bike the trails in safety.

This was a great spot to visit, so much history left over from yesteryear, the kids had a blast exploring the ruins, there isneven a couple of geo caches around the place. Also free!

We approach this from the railway cafe end & walked across the bridge.Walked all around this interesting site while my fellow walk mates did a long walk up the track.Very photogenic & being mid week nobody else around. The history is amazing & well placed signage to tell you all about the area.Lovely area by the bridge to have a picnic on a hot day.

We did the trio activity: museum, tram ride and tunnel guide tour. Small mining museum which narrates the local history from the 19th century. The tram is an awesome way to explore the surrounding, specially if you have kids, they loved. The mining tunnel is a 200m walk which gave us a brief history of the early gold explorers. The guide was telling us that many miners lost their thumb purposely to receive cash as indemnification and bought houses with that. The weather was great and we could walk up to the Waikino cafe to rest before heading home. Worth a visit to this little museum!

Steeped in history.. this place is well worth a visit especially the museum. The museum is run by volunteers who do a great job and are so passionate about sharing their stories and knowledge about the gold mining days of old. They are very informative and most obliging especially late on a Sunday when we visited.

Great historical place to visit with family. Just for health and safety don't play under the silos and keep hands off from the soil around it (it may contain contaminants).Great bike track stop and go across the bridge and get some delicious food from the cafe

Wonderful place to get a mixture of fresh air, beautiful nature and education on NZs rich historical gold mines. There's a museum, train ride and a cave tour for those inclined for cheap prices.
