We have been to The Stag Cafe several times. The food is always excellent, coffee great, service very friendly and prices very reasonable. City quality experience without the huge pricetag. Def worth a visit by visitors to Otaki, short drive off the highway but totally worth it.

My family and I went here without any expectations and were absolutely impressed and surprised by the quality of our meals.It was steak night - our steaks were cooked exactly as we'd requested, blue and rare. The accompanying fries, mushroom sauce, garlic butter and salad were outstanding and complemented the sirloin perfectly. At only $15, the value here is unbeatable - one would expect to pay at least $30 for a steak this good in Wellington.Thanks Family Hotel for a great meal, we'll be back!

What a lovely little place. I only had a coffee but they knew what an Americano was! Some cafes in wellington struggle with them and I never know if I'm going to get a long black instead.The cabinet did looked amazing and lots of people seemed to be ordering the (very large) sausage roll, which came with a generous salad.I so wanted that custard square OMG!

Have visited many times now. A true hidden gem. The food is always incredibly tasty (tried the fishcakes on Sunday and they were great) and the service always friendly. Can recommend highly for a meal.

Great renovation. The stag cafe is a great addition. The beer as always is good and the staff are excellent. Just typical Kapiti Coast and Otaki hospitality. Come to enjoy the sun, then come here to wind down.

I made my way to the Family Hotel for a late lunch and to watch the Otago vs Hawkes Bay rugby match. The barman kindly agreed to my request to turn the music down and turn up the volume on the TV. There were several TVs in the bar which was great (although it is meant to be a sports bar) and I enjoyed watching the game.My seafood basket was nice, and came out in good time.Service was prompt and friendly, although for most of the time I was the only patron - don't they like their rugby in Otaki? They had Amstel Light on tap (among others) which was great for me.Overall a good experience, but there was the smell of stale beer eminating up from the carpet.
