Ardmore Airfield NZMCA Park

It is always nice coming back to a well maintained place.

Clean quiet. Has access to ablutions block for a fee. Library for swapping. Lots of space.

We arrived today for the first time, and both think the NZMCA camp is just fabulous, so clean and well marked out. The opportunity to use the washing and drying machines was a great surprise. $3.00 wash $4.00 dryer.

What a cool place - great facilities, lots to see. If your inner child isn't excited to look at all these flying machines then I dunno what's up.Beautiful outlook on a sunny day.The custodian was a real nice dude and the added facilities provided by the neighbouring air cadets really do make this a top shelf location, hope the members support it and treat it respectfully...... would suck if members took advantage of their hospitality and they stopped it

Arrived just as they were closing, but that did not matter to them. As we were walking away they called us back and offered to make us a coffee and served it outside so they could continue closing. So friendly and obliging and the coffee and orange cupcakes were really nice. Thanks for being so nice.

It has been difficult to recognise whether or not there is a custodian there lately. No checks being done. Notices in ablution block addressed to NZMCA members. Complaints made re power costs etc to an NZMCA member. Are we all paying for what we use?

Sadly, this is about the only camp in the Auckland region that takes a camper of 9 m or longer, and even then, you're packed in like a sardine. Some spots require good backing skills as you have vehicles in front and to both sides, so you can jack-knife if you're not experienced. Nice rural setting. Tarmac surface rather than gravel. You get to use the air force cadets' showers, toilets and laundry for an enforced donation, but only when they feel like it, so don't expect these things. The host is just doing his job, but he is officious in his enforcement of the NZMCA rules and doesn't like any negative feedback of the organisation, even gentle. If you do give feedback, expect to be inspected for all your stickers forthwith, which of course is within his rights. There is a large book exchange, which is nice. For me, though, it was all a bit 'little girl, little boy' with big red tick marks indicating when you could use the showers and big red Xs indicating closure to campers. All a wee bit surreal, I think I will do my damndest to bypass Auckland next time if I can manage it.

Have stayed here several times ....very good. Luv watching the wee planes and helicopters.

Although it's a flight training school, you dont mind the noise, and gates are locked at nights and its quiet at night. When the night flying starts, by 10pm they've finished. And, only 6 minutes to the PDS.. ps, no animals allowed due to aviation runways.
