Esplanade Surf School

I booked a surfing lesson online for $120 during Easter Holiday this year. No one showed up on the day after sending me the confirmation message via both email and text. There was a lovely young man helped me find the owner at the surfing competition. The owner promised me do it the next day. I don’t live in Dunedin so I extended my stay for another day, based on what he said. The next day there was still no one showing up. I called more than 10 times since Easter till today and no one picked up the phone. I don’t blame anyone it’s all good, but I’d just like to get my $120 back please.

Booked online but no one showed up to take my friend and I for a lesson.We rang their phone multiple times to no answer and waited at the meeting spot for an hour,Emailed them and got offered to be taken again, we replied to this email asking for 10% off for being mucked around but had no reply,Awful service and will never be booking with them again and would advise you not to as well!

Booked and pre-paid for a surfboard hire, but they never showed up. It seems my experience is not unique, wish I'd checked the Google reviews first.I showed up at my rental time and there was nobody at the van, but there was a sign in the window saying that they were open. I was there with a friend who had their on gear, so my friend went surfing while I called the number on the van. Over the next hour I called them no less than 19 times, emailed them and texted them, but no response. I just sat there and watched my friend surf.That evening I got a text saying that they hadn't checked their bookings and did I want to come back another day. Unfortunately I had left Duneidn that evening, so I couldn't. They didn't offer me a refund either, but I got one eventually through the bank.This was extremely disappointing. I had really been looking forward to trying out surfing in Dunedin and it looked like a great day. I only had a short visit so it was annoying to waste an afternoon like this.

I had a group surf lesson with Jess and she was so incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. I managed to stand up on my board within the first lesson and now I’m hooked!The owner is also really helpful and I defiantly recommend giving these guys a go :)

Messed me about really. I was told someone would be there for equipment hire but no one showed up.Hydro is a little pricier as their shortest hire is 3 hours, but they are reliable and have a good board selection. Would recommend going there instead!

They didn't show despite me booking and pre-paying NZD$120 for a private surf lesson. I had been super excited for the chance to get a lesson for improving while back home in Dunedin, and even asked if I could get another lesson since they didn't show initially. They then didn't respond for four days, and even then only a text message saying 'sorry' (that's it). In the end I had to make a dispute with the bank to chase for refund, which I did eventually get. Would not recommend. A real shame, they are the only surf school in Dunedin and some people have reviewed them well for their teaching. I regret not checking Google Reviews first though, as apparently this is not the first time they have not shown for private lessons. I would hope they would be much better at running their business.

They didn't show up!!! We had booked and paid for a lesson and waited well past our scheduled time, but no one showed up. I tried to phone, text and email, but no reply... when I finally got an email later in the afternoon they said that they were closed due to Covid, but they were still taking online bookings, and it doesn't explain why no one contacted us to cancel, and why you can't contact them when they don't show up. Terrible customer service! Would definitely NOT recommend. I should have taken more heed from the other bad reviews when they have also not fronted...
