Tony's Tyre Service - Kilbirnie

Tl;dr quote says ~$160, charged ~$450, told to pay or walk home. My partner went in to get two front tyres replaced, the initial quote was for ~$80, when she arrived she was accused of lying about her tyre size and then quoted $160/tyre, which she agreed. During the day the manager called her and said he'd managed to source some tyres in lower Hutt that would be $120 each, which she agreed. When she arrived to pick the car up after her day at work she found extra work had been completed on the back wheels without asking her, for which she was charged $150 and she was charged $155/tyre, when she questioned the quote her options were either to pay in full, or leave the car till the weekend where they would find time to undo" the work that had been done. Seems not to be to uncommon from kilbirnie Tony's tyres service judging by past reviews"

Impossible to ring them!..... You simply can't get through ever... all of our team members are on calls"... the usual waffle from corporates! This is AFTER you have to sit through the rigmorale of the "you call may be recorded

Unskilled or negligent or both. Avoid this place if you care for your safety on the road.I need four new tyres and they installed one of them on a dangerous rim and failed to let me know (even if it was within spec" as they assured me when I went back). I only found out that it was dangerous and needed to be replaced when I went for a WOF in the following weeks.I would recommend anyone to avoid this place."

The first time I went to this store was because my car had a flat tyre. As soon as I arrived the guy working in the office I assume to be the manager said “ah mate your gonna need a full alignment, rotation and balance and we’ll fix the tyre” in a rather condescending tone and went on with some technical details and pointing at things and marks. I do know a thing or two about cars and I felt as though the guy was just trying to bewilder me into spending more money by making it sound like if I didn’t get all those done my car would veer off the side of the road the next day. Clearly his goal was to squeeze as much money out of people as possible. However I felt extremely pressured and agreed to the additional work. I also managed to get duped into buying some wheel alignment certificate thing. None of which I had anticipated to buy. The second time I went, was to redeem one of said wheel alignments with a new car I had bought. Again this guy made an appearance and insisted I needed “the works”. Keep in mind, this was a new car, I had for all of a few days. I this time had come prepared for this sales tactics and politely declined. He clearly wasn’t impressed I had declined the extra work and kind of dismissed me and said it would be ready in a couple of hours. I have learnt my lesson and based on the experience I have had at this store will go elsewhere. It makes you wonder how operating a store like that you can retain the “MTA Assured” status. Although it appears I’m stuck with Tony’s Tyre Service for now (at another store) to get my money’s worth of the wheel alignment “deal”.

George was super friendly and clear with what needed to be done. He thoroughly understood my situation and was quick with getting everything done for me, felt comfortable, respected and safe throughout the entire experience. Would give him 10 stars if I could!

This was my THIRD BAD EXPERIENCE at Tony's tyre !!!! Since it was closest to my house, I decided to go there to get a punctured tyre fixed with lots of tread left and they said no fix
