Church Road Winery

We had a great time at Church road winery and spent a lovely afternoon at their venue. We had read online that they are dog friendly and so had booked to do a tasting followed by lunch. In the lead up to our visit, I tried to call several times to confirm they were indeed dog friendly but unfortunately it went to answering machine every time which was annoying. When we go to venue we found out that whilst the dog is allowed outside, tastings are only done inside. This was kind of annoying but Daniele the venue manager was super friendly and tried to find a good solution for us. We ended up having a share platter outside which was delicious along with a couple of glasses of wine. The outside area is delightful with a beautiful lush green view.My husband did a terroir tasting with Kay which he said was amazing. She too was super friendly and helpful and we ended up buying a few bottles to take home and as giftsThe only negative was one of the staff members - an older gentleman with white hair who was super unhelpful, unfriendly and borderline rude.

Best wine experience in my life !!! Jenny was a great host , she explained everything so cleary and passionate , thanks for making our first visit in Napier so wonderful ! Gran Reserve Syrah was our favourite wine :) highly recommend it coming here :)

Church Road had deteriorated. We loved this place in the past and would come regularly. This time we came here , the service is poor and staff refused to deliver the wine to the outside tables, and refused to open new bottle of wine for us. The women who served us was really rude, and told us no restaurant would open a new bottle of wine for customers. They forgot one of our order and we were waiting for ages. The food (fries) were cold and upon sending them back got a funny look.A nice scenic place with potential if they can get the basics right. Respect your customers and don’t ruin their day - Thanks!

Excellent high class restaurant. Absolutely stunning building set in park like grounds at the winery. We went for lunch. It was very busy. Catering for a large group while we were there who were celebrating a 50th Anniversary down the end of the restsurant. You were not aware of any extra noise & staff were still friendly & efficient. Meanwhile people were coming in on a casual wine tasting experience. Some were cyclists clearly on the wine trail having a lot of fun. Added to the great atmosphere. Impressive menu. The food & wine was absolutely delicious. It was lovely & busy. (I try to take photos with no people in to respect their privacy).

Went there for tasting.Rohan who served us was just wonderful.It was such a pleasure to listen to his stories about different types of wines.You don’t have to pay for tasting if you purchase bottles in the cellar.One of the popular wineries in Hawke’s Bay you must try.

The foods are delicious. The winery tasting is a happy tour.

Amazing cheese platter and wine. We did not have a restaurant booking, but we ordered a platter to enjoy outside. Very peaceful surrounding and well shaded. The selection of foods were amazing. I loved the sesame prawns and olives. Good value for money. Amazing wine. Highly recommended.

Other than the woman working there making me feel like a moron (I enjoy wine but obviously don't know know enough about it...), it was lovely. I enjoyed the tour also. Recommend booking it - they certainly love their founder, Tom McDonald, seems everything is about him. You learn a lot and see the inner workings of a winery. Beautiful spots outside to sit also.

We went to a wine tasting over a quiet travel period. We didn’t book ahead and just walked in, but I believe you need to book ahead if travelling there other time.The staff there was friendly but may not be knowledgeable and professional enough to our needs.We drank some single vineyard wine and grand reserve wine before so would like to try something different. Instead of choosing a tasting option from the existing options like G-Wen, Terroir and Innovation…, I tried some wine from TOM collection that was beautiful but may not be up to the high price tag.

Beautiful place. Platter was pleasant. Wine was decent. Duty manger was terrible. There was clear miscommunication given on their behalf. All that was needed was them to apologise and approach situations nicely instead of being rude straight away. None of the expectations that had been discussed prior were met. The lady duty manager started arguments in front of our guests.Otherwise would have been a lovely venue and experience if it wasn’t for her.
