Kaituna Valley Packhorse Hut Track Car Park

The sceneries were gorgeous all around this place. But it had been raining for a few days before I visited here, so it's quite muddy that day. Sadly, I was not able to finish the track cause it turned into a river.....

From Christchurch travel along State Highway 75 about 40km and then turn left at Kaituna Valley Road.A scenic reserve is located about 5km up the road. Keep going and the start of the Kaituna Valley Packhorse Hut track is located off Parkinsons Road, which is about a further 1km up Kaituna Valley Road.This is a 2 hour walk to  Packhorse Hut. This 4.1 km track ambles through pasture and then forest, crossing the valley stream several times.It is steep in the middle but the walk is along a 4wd track.There are great views along the track of Kaitorete Spit and the south coast, as well as Lyttelton Harbour, Quail Island and the Port Hills.
