Rented two cars with Devine rentals for my holiday. The team made the rental process seemless and had very prompt communication the entire time. The cars were clean and very enjoyable to drive. The convertible was perfect for the autumn colours and the SUV was great for the long drives on the highway. Would definitely be renting with them when I get the chance to visit again! I had a great experience with Devine rentals. I purchased travel insurance prior to starting the journey as sometimes people don't treat cars very nicely and you suddenly cant go on your journey (it's happened to me at a different rental company on a trip from Chch to Auckland as a customer decided to launch the sports sedan into a wall).In this case the vehicle was returned to Devine rentals in one piece and I had the chance to drive a Porsche 911S from Auckland to Queenstown which was a special experience! I didnt quite appreciate what they meant about the 911 driving experience on the website but it was a different class of performance and comfort - the seats had lumbar support which was great for my bad back, I actually felt better after the drive that I have in a while! The car was well kept and they even provided some handy extras like a phone mount, so I could have easy access to my GPS.Everything was clean and tidy and the communication was smooth, Devine rentals always followed up on calls and texts promptly and even called me back very quickly when a call went to voicemail (I think due to Andrew being in the air). Bonds etc were returned promptly.

The booking process was fast and efficient, they contacted me as soon as possible and I was kindly approached and guested in the airport to drive the car of my choosing.For anyone considering driving any of their cars, it is definitely worth every dollar, every second and, most importantly, every smile.

I wish I’d read all the 1 star reviews before approaching Devine Rentals. This is by far the worst customer experience I’ve had to endure.After a year from hell with my mom being diagnosed with cancer, I decided to treat myself with a road trip from Wellington to Auckland. I was feeling positive and excited. I booked flights and accommodation that were riding on the back of a car rental booking which Andrew had confirmed and taken credit card details for.I fully expected all to go to plan until I received a call from Andrew today to let me know that he and his wife had decided that I was not “the right type of client” and that they have every right to refuse business. Taken aback, I asked him to please explain what he meant by that. I was told that I had asked too many questions while making the booking. I had sent 11 messages in the space of 36 hours. For context: these messages related to broken links and a wrong email address on their website, which made it impossible for me to reach them or to understand the details of the vehicle I was attempting to book. Other questions related to bond amounts, vehicle model and features, all info not made available on the website or on the quote. Yes, this is a lot of communication, but by the same token I have every right to understand what I was getting for the money I’d be paying. If information was made available upfront, it would’ve made for a more efficient booking process.Andrew admitted that my over-eagerness for information signalled that if I had a problem with the car, that I might be tempted to complain loudly and publicly (the irony here does not escape me!), and so they’d prefer not to proceed. I explained that I am a working professional with a business of my own and that I regard responsiveness as key to providing good customer service. This was met with “I’m sure our business is more complex to run than yours”!The reasoning still didn’t add up, so I asked whether the real reason for declining my business was due to a potential problem with the vehicle, pointing out that customers should be given full transparency in that respect, to which he admitted that the car is old, is due to be replaced, and indeed has some “issues”. He said that they didn’t believe I would enjoy the experience. This now became the new reason why they were declining my business.I also asked whether they had concerns about me being a woman driving alone. He responded that because the car is a convertible, it might be problematic for me, clearly implying that as a woman, I am incapable of driving a sports car or understanding its basic controls! When I asked if he was now implying that I’m stupid, I was told “I’m sure you’re above average intelligence, but these cars can be complex.” (By this point, I was so horrified, that it had become almost comical.)Every answer to every question I had was a personal insult from Andrew. All of this after several days of promising me a vehicle, then saying it was not available, then suddenly making it available again etc. I was sent on a wild goose chase and hours of stress booking and rebooking flights and accommodation around the car’s changing availability. Andrew’s tone and not very careful wording makes it very clear that his preferred clientele for this particular vehicle are men, those they deem to be sophisticated enough, those who ask few questions, and those who aren’t likely to complain publicly when their poor fleet maintenance leaves them stranded on the side of the road. My husband who sat beside me and overheard the entire conversation agrees categorically that the entire experience felt like a personal attack of blatant sexism and discrimination.After reading several similar complaints online, it seems I'm not alone. Although my entire trip has been ruined, I'm very relieved not to have to deal with them. It’s truly disappointing to see that in today’s day and age, lack of transparency and discrimination of all kinds is still so rife, and especially so in today’s climate where we really prefer to support small business.

Booked a VW convertable, but the previous hirer returned with damage, so offered a seriously cool upgrade for our family holiday. They gave us a luxury sedan with all the gear, allowed unlimited milage, and in fact it was so much better than the car booked. The pick up was smooth and the drop off at Auckland domestic went like clockwork. All in all, a first class service.
