The Salty Dog Inn

Just a minute away from the beach and tucked away behind Liquorland is this very cute inn. Lynn took care of us and she was incredible. The main building/pub is big and gorgeous, with classic, high quality pub grub. The rooms are separate from the pub building, which gives you a bit of distance from any noise. Only problem with the room was there were a couple of spiders in it, but it was the night before NYE and you can't stop nature.

The Inn had a lot of space, the bed had heated blankets, and there was a space heater. It had a county cabin feel and smell. Place was super easy to check in and check out was as easy as dropping the key off. Cleaning staff respected the sign of not cleaning the room. The standup shower was hot, the kettle boiled, and lots of plates, glasses and utensils to make lunches with. Door locks were nothing than a basic lock, never left anything of value in the room when I was gone.

What a find! Upbeat bar and restaurant. Good food. Pleasant accommodations. Friendly staff. I guess you'd call it rustic kiwiana, the way things were before all the corporates started flashing it up a bit. I've spent most of my life in Novotel box suites and I wouldn't swap the best of that for a night at the Salty Dog Inn. Get into it!

This review is for their food and drinks. We didn't plan on going here , but with the cafe we planned to go to having only counter food available that day we decided to have our lunch here. The guy behind the bar was very friendly and accommodating, our food and drinks arrived together, in a good time frame and the food was hot and delicious (lamb shanks, carbonara and a scotch fillet) and we all enjoyed our meals. Will definitely be back.

Big rooms at good rates. Clean spacious and comfortable. Recommend

Accommodation was clean and tidy and spacious and great to be able to take the dog. Decor could do with being refreshed - carpets and curtains look like they've had better days.Food was average and took over an hour to arrive.

Great friendly staff, clean comfortable rooms. Room 10 had its own private balcony off to the side. Great for a night away. The food was delicious.

Struggling to find the words to summarise our awful experience with salty dog who my husband booked 2 x nights accomodation for me and my 1.5 year old baby withMy baby and I arrived at 1 pm and attempted to check in after an early 5 am start to our day, a flight and a drive from the airport to snells beach. Baby was cranky and ready to nap.I gave over my details for the booking which was met with complete confusion on their end. They showed me their booking screen saying sorry we are fully booked and you are not on here. I showed them my confirmation emails from booking .com and invoice showing I had booked it. They spent an hour just saying ‘no you aren’t on here’ provided no assistance to me when I tried to ask them to contact booking dot com to resolve it as we had clearly made a booking and had it confirmed by booking dot com. The issue was obviously with their system, not with me, not with booking dot com but they just kept deflecting saying they ‘don’t have confirmation.They were extremely unhelpful and they don’t seem to care at all about customers.We left after an hour of trying to ask them to sort it because they Just kept saying ‘we are fully booked, sorry. You need to call booking dot com’.I had to call my husband at home in Wellington because I was getting nowhere with reception. He tried to talk with salty dog who just kept telling him the same thing but providing no actual assistance to fix the issue. He asked them to contact booking dot com but they hung up on him and wouldn’t pick up the phone when he tried calling them back.He eventually managed to contact booking dot com and sort other accomodation for us but it took several hours.By this point I was exhausted starting to feel so sick, baby was overtired and I just felt so angry at salty dog and their lack of initiative. They clearly made a mistake ( this was confirmed by booking dot com that the fault lay with salty dog ) but did absolutely nothing to help resolve it , just a really insincere ‘sorry’ was all they offered, and a pitying face.Please note - this was booked months in advance and received confirmation of our booking And confirmation that the property received the payment too so salty dogs refusal to refund us immediately is unacceptable. We are still waiting for our refund.I had come up to spend 2.5 days with my sister who I get to see 1-2 times per year and wasted half a day trying to sort a place to stay after salty dog cancelled our booking .( booking dot com confirmed that this is what must have happened )I will never book with salty dog again and will warn anyone about this place.Horrible experience

Great atmosphere & beers, but the meal was terrible!!! 1st time I’ve ever had a chicken schnitzel meal arrive with the chicken cut up !!! It was a very poor meal and overpriced for what you got, or should I say didn’t get !!! It was the cut up chicken and about a quarter of of a cup of raw salad with no dressing- that was it !!!!
