Not a great experience and don’t recommend at all. We didn’t get food (thankfully looking at recent reviews) but two coffees for $12 which were undrinkable. There is also a Nuremberg code printed off, no alternative milk and a “welcome all regardless of vaccine status” sign so take that as a few indicators of the type of ownership. Sad to see a historical cafe get to this state. The best thing is the view but you can get that outside!!

Bring your own food when visiting Mount Cook. Two options in the village for dinner. We unfortunately chose pizza here at the old mountaineers cafe. Making the order we asked to have no mushroom on our pizza, we were told the pizzas are pre made so no option to make changes, ok no worries they use frozen pizza no big deal given the location, however a big price for a frozen pizza at $26, but still happy to support the local village economy. The pizza came out pretty quickly, ok cool. Yes COOL it was, undercooked in fact. So we took the pizza back and asked if they could cook it longer. Back to our lodge for a second time and it was still CLEARLY undercooked. PSA undercooked frozen pizza harbours germs in the flour if eaten you could become sick or even die from consuming. When we took the pizza back the second time and asked for a refund as it was not safe to consume, the girl assured it was cooked but maybe not cooked to our liking. Please, if the girl working there reads this review, just do a simple google search of how to visually tell if a frozen pizza is cooked for safe consumption. Management please take this review seriously for constructive criticism, so you don’t cause anyone to become unwell. Staff shortages are no excuse for serving unsafe food. When a frozen pizza is served with the cheese not melted on top, soggy in the centre and the bottom is pale, it is clearly not cooked, therefore unsafe for consumption.

Stunning view for a meal. Such a blest to have a cafe serving warm food in this area.Do not rely on time here, opening time change daily. Go to their website and call the owner to avoid disappointment ( this is what the owner told me in person when we arrived too early )

What a warm and friendly place to go for lunch. With little staff, they do a wonderful job of being very patient and jolly, with good, banter and food to go with. Thanks for having me!

Accessible within walking distance in mount cook village. Nice decent place for food and drinksOperating hours need to confirm due to staff shortage so changes does happens. It’s ok for us, it’s open at 5:30pm and close at 7pm. Enough time for meal and chill with beerLimited menu options, we were informed when we reached the cafe. Price ok, it’s the typical cafe pricing same for drinks. Price stays the same for takeaway, we did dine in and takeout. The place is cozy, pls be accommodating to their staff shortage and overwhelming of orders as there isn’t much food places in this region. Not easy to run the business

Dropped by for dinner. This cafe has a basic serviceable menu. I ordered a burger and it was as expected. Very straightforward food options.Something I’d keep in-mind is the kitchen literally only has one staff member preparing all of the food. So, I would advise visiting before the cafe gets busy or observing some patience when waiting for your food.

This is a place with a great vibe.. it's covered with old photos from the glory days of Edmund Hillary and how the town used to look.. it's got merchandise which you can buy to support the local community and ofcourse the food is simple and always fresh.. it's the only cafe/bar for miles..and it serves both coffee and beer .. for a change I tried the chai latte here and it was really good .. A good chai under the shadow of the mountains brings back memories for me.. so it was a beautiful place for me... If you visit Mount cook do give it a try.. the staff is really friendly ...

What a view! Great place to relax and enjoy a beer with friends. Delicious pizza with super crispy base. Lots of historic facts and photos to check out. Thoughtfully decorated.
