A terrible experience honestly. The meal was ok. The steak was cooked as requested but was warm. The vegetables were over cooked and had no taste. Although the restaurant wasn't busy the service was terrible. We felt like we were a problem for them. We weren't asked for drinks at anytime. We sat waiting for our dessert order to be taken and although on a number of occasions catching the eye of the waitress she never come over.After travelling 8.5hrs to one of NZ most beautiful tourist attractions we expected something a lot better.Very poor.

Wouldn't recommend this place. We were told it would be 30 mins until our orders could be taken, ended up being more than 45 mins. We ordered two steaks which took almost an hour to arrive and they were pretty much cold when they did come. Quite a few other customers that evening were not pleased with the service either. However, we did appreciate the manager discounting the bill 50% when we raised these issues to them.

1 star is a push...waited nearly an hour and food was so bad wished we had of just left...chicken and bacon stack arrived with wiltered vegetables and NO BACON, garlic bread sticks had NO GARLUC, and steak wasn't medium rare, barley rare, VERY UNDERCOOKED...disappointed is an understatement

Decent pub food. Kitchen and staff are quick and friendly, unlike other places in the area. Bit salty, but you’ll get fed in a reasonable amount of time

Waitress ignored us when we walked in, to the point the manager came up to serve us. Waited such a long time to be served at the table and then she refused to take drinks order and we had to go to bar to order. Fish burgers were ordered, one gluten free. Buns were cold and fish batter was so oily. Will never go to another Armadillos again.

Before we go to Armadillos, we checked the Google Reviews (2.7) but we really thing “ we need to see, so the Food Menu is pretty nice” the venue is in front of the lake, why not try it.We feel so sorry for the chef, because his food is incredible and very tasty. We loved it,But unfortunately the FOH doesn’t know how to provide a good service.They lose us in a simple detail, but It showed to much how bad its.We ordered 1 Rump Steak, 1 Chicken Bacon Pasta and 1 Weges Potatos fried, as I already said, food was amazing. My girlfriend just went to the FOH staff and asked if we could have a 2 shares plates.So the idea was we can have a lit bit of the food and the one of the staff said: “ I will see what I can do for you”, few minutes later, another staff arrived with 2 desserts plates. My Girlfriend gently just asked if we could have a bigger plates and the answer was so funny: “ you are 2 ppl with already 3 plates on the table, is it not enough?”Seriously, FOH are terrible, that’s probably affecting the reviews on the Google.Chef, Ill would love to give the 5 stars, but unfortunately I cannot do it and I don’t recommend people going to there.

Celebrated my 80th birthday here with 8 members of my family. An amazing reception from Manager Big Al" who put on a top class meal. Excellent staff served us in a friendly way. Thoroughly recommended."
